Hi,
I recently noticed that my passport showing "4G"network symbol not "4GLTE ". But some people's passport shows "4GLTE " with the same sim card(same provider). What's the difference between 4G and 4GLTE?

There is a difference LTE is a lot faster data. Have you tried looking under the network connections setting?

But it shows the 4G! The speed is 50M/s. It is LTE. Isn't it?

4G = LTE, even by now in the US, because those people over there used to call hspa+ 4G in 2009

Not exactly. Depends on each carrier, but AT&T definitely differentiates between 4G and LTE. Best way to test this out is to try another device, or perhaps see how a friend's connection shows up.

The Carrier decides what shows up there. My carrier puts HSPA+ whereas others will call it 4G.

Some carrier also puts 4G instead of LTE. I'd also seen 4GLTE... it's very confusing

Try to contact your carrier but also, by experience... if you see LTE or 4GLTE and it falls down to 4G, then you're probably on HSPA

That's true. Firstly it shows 4GLTE, then it fall to 4G. Probably it is H+.
Ok,it comes to another question : I change the same SIM card to my Lumia 1520, it shows "L". We know that Lumia device shows "H+"on the signal. But now it shows "L" now. I am sure it is 4G Network, but why it does not show "4GLTE " on my passport?

Go to your "Mobile Network" settings and check if LTE is enabled under "Network Mode".

On Rogers Wireless voice is on 4G whereas data is on the LTE band.

The Network mode selection also shows how your carrier will display or has available. If you don't have LTE in the list, your SIM is either not an LTE SIM or your carrier uses 4G to signify LTE. You need a special LTE sim to get LTE. If you are using an old SIM and didn't have an LTE phone prior, you may just need a new SIM.

When you open up the drop down list for network selection, what are the other options other than what you showed.

If you are getting 50mbps, you are probably on LTE. Depending on the frequency, you may only get LTE outside or close to a tower.

Your'e getting 50mb speeds and think you are on hspa+? I thought hspa+ topped out at 42mb on mobile networks?

... also ... there are coverage areas that are 4G and others that are 4G with LTE data ( most Rogers areas)

when WIFI is available the LTE symbol goes away from my display but will return when WIFI is unavailable!!

so LTE is telling me when the phone has using high speed data available from my mobile service and is turned off by the system when WIFI is available whether it is being used or not!!

This is the situation in South Africa (according to my Q5)

If I'm connected to a 2G network it displays "E" or "gsm"

If I'm connected to a HSDPA or HSDPA+ it displays "3G"

If I'm connected to a "LTE" or "LTE - A" network it displays "4G"

This just makes it very simple for people to understand. So to wrap up it either displays "E" "3G" or "4G" and nothing else. Even though on "4G I can get 80+ mbps

What is 4G?

The different generations of wireless technology standards are generally not backwards compatible.

Each generation usually results in a fundamental change in the nature of the service.
