I really hope BlackBerry consider this with the next model. The need to be able to swipe out from an open app and then press the phone icon is annoying. The Classic allows you to press the send button in order to override any open app and bring up the phone menu.

Why not move over to the Classic, if that's what you are looking for.

I agree with OP, the Passport will be even better with call buttons. They don't even have to be dedicated, just give the Q and P buttons the same functionality as the Call buttons on the Classic (with long press for opening the phone app obviously).

No offence but 'passport will even be better with...' is an opinion. I like my passport as it is!

However BlackBerry should have made the classic with specs that belong in 2014/2015. The s4 dual core is like a 2012 processor? That's like ancient in the tech world....

It's about making it better but that's not to say it's not an excellent device... I don't see why that's a problem...

The keyboard shortcuts in 10.3.1 basically fix this issue as you have p for example to open phone.

The q and p idea is good but I prefer holding q to put phone on vibrate.

Thanks RexdaleNap. Will one be able to press those keys whilst in an open app or are they just for launching the phone from the home screen?

Let me phrase is differently, if those extra buttons makes it easier for you then it doesn't mean it does for me. It's a opinion and I do respect those, but the phone certainly won't be better with them in my opinion.

I don't see how a call and end button wouldn't make it literally easier for any human being to call and hang up compared to the option the passport has now

Because it takes up more room for nothing. Considering calling isn't actually the most used function on a smartphone, it becomes a little redundant.

I think John Chen will spend most of the next couple months flying out to see key customers, listening, and finding out that they really want function-specific hardware buttons on the Passport. Look for an announcement at MWC - The Passport Classic.

You have to be in the main menu to be able to use the shortcuts, which makes sense.

I disagree; you build a phone to make calls first and then you add as much functionality to complement it's primary function... the iPhone has the same problem that I am describing and it's never great to have similarity to an iphone...
