It's not the same thing. Using the native video player behaves differently than general video streaming. I actually just finished reporting this issue to BlackBerry as a bug. Miracast should by default have the target display at the correct aspect ratio, not at the aspect ratio of the device that is connecting to the display.

Yes but if you use your phone while using the play on it will make the video choppy. Did with mine anyway....

    Try closing some active frames?

I don't have a Passport to test with but that would be my first idea.

Also, we're you using any apps that use data when it was choppy, or just swiping around home screen led to choppy video?

Sadly couldn't manage to get it running, my 2014 LG TV do not want to connect to my Passport through Miracast or WiFi Direct neither.
If anyone have any advice I will be very thankful.

Yeah I tried it last night with YouTube, it works. After you go full screen on your phone, it won't fill the screen of your TV. The trick is, at the bottom right of the screenon your phone, if you have the progress bar showing, there will be two buttons available, click on the 2nd one to the right (not the 1st one which said CC), it will then fill the TV screen.

And yes the performance is pretty awesome.

For those having trouble with the aspect ratio. Have you tried setting the HDMI Display Mode (resolution) in the Display settings while the device is connected to the TV? I've never tried it but I would hope that there's a similar option somewhere to set the output resolution when using Miracast. Also, the Play ON feature doesn't require Miracast. It only requires DLNA which even the Z10 can do. That works over plain Wifi with a compatible DLNA TV, Dongle or even a PC with a DLNA supported software.

Also there's a little white box in the top right hand corner of the video player which switches between different stretch modes on a playing video.

I can confirm that if you are using another app not the stock player all your stuff will be in 1:1 aspect ratio. That's weird, is there any app that can handle this, I would like FastTube or SuperTube to implement play on option compatibility

Patrick - which miracast device are you using. I just got a NetgearPTV3000 and I can "play on" but can't seem to get the "miracast" to work to mirror my screen to my TV. My netgear device does not show up under the Miracast list. Any help is appreciated.

I just bought a Roku 3. Things like Netflix won't matter since they will be on the device.

Miracast has lower bandwidth than the HDMI cable. So the quality will never be the same until 60GHz radios at 3+Gbs datarate are installed on cellphones.
