Does this output the correct 16:9 format while connected to a TV? I assume it would, but I'm still wondering..?

    i believe it's the 10.3 update. it's working much better than 10.2.1

i connected it to my tronsmart android stick. i previously tried connecting to it using my Z30 and it would not work. My Z30 running 10.3 connects to it now too.

I didn't get the Passport to display 16:9. I will fiddle with it again later to see if I can get it to do that.

Yes I think phone content should be in 1:1 aspect ratio but multimedia like videos should be in 16:9 even the browser and some apps like Facebook indeed

I was not able to get any apps/content to display in 16:9 to fit my TV while connected using miracast. It was always a mirror image of the square Passport screen. However, I believe in the video app if you use the 'Play-on' feature, it will play the video on your TV at 16:9. I'm not home at the moment to verify this.

That's odd. I use the same miracast device and I can get the 16:9 ratio but it doesn't fill up the TV screen.

You have any video settings changed on your TV or passport?

Why doesn't the Passport have HDMI like the Z10/30?

I have the Passport and was wondering if I should go HDMI route or Miracast?

    Just Wondering?
In general, is Miracast the same quality as hooking your device up to an HD TV with a HDMI cord?

With the wire, the signal will be stable and easy... but then your phone is tethered to your TV. If you are using "Play On" via hdmi, you xan use the phone for other things while the hdmi signal continues uninterrupted.

With the Miracast connection, once it's set up (run software update on the Miracast adaptor, connect the adaptor to your TV, then link your phone to the adaptor), it is quite good. Jitter free, lag free, good sound. And there's no dorky wire! But, if you need to use your phone to check messages, whatever is on your phone screen is mirrored onto the tv.

That's wrong, you can do PlayOn via Miracast too.

Yes, Peter is right about this. You have to choose the Play On option, otherwise it mirrors whatever is on your screen. Sorry for the misinformation.

Everybody please note that the Play On option is NOT available when using Netflix or Hulu, the two of I know specifically. This is a huge disappointment for me because I had no problem with my Z10 because of the comparable aspect ratio. However, my Z10 over wi-fi would only download at 5 Mbps making it a buffering fool. Also, audio was limited to two channel. My Passport grabs all 50 Mbps coming out of my router and also supports 5.1 audio. I was so exited thinking that my Passport, with better everything would make watching Netflix on my big screen much better experience. Boy, was I wrong. Seems like such a shame to waste the fantastic abilities of such a great phone. Works great with YouTube or native videos though.

Yes but if you use your phone while using the play on it will make the video choppy. Did with mine anyway....
