    Tips?

    PassportSQW100-1/10.3.1.2267
There are a couple of different ways which is the same method used with big DSLR'S and one is to pre-focus a spot where you think the animal or person is going to run to, focus there and take the shot just before the subject comes into that pre-focused zone. I use the burst setting with action scene with the pre-focus zone in order to essentially stop the action.

This is the most used technique by photographers to capture action shots.

The 2nd method which I find harder to do is to basically holding the passport and tracking the movements of the subject using the burst mode and action scene but making sure you pick the lightest area of the subject (not a dark area, very important you do choose the lightest area) so the first passport sensor can pick up the focus easier.

The passport does not shoot action shots well in the dark, still shots yes.

Look... I don't have time to argue this... and I wouldn't even reply except point out the following:

Everything that is wrong with the Passport camera was NOT wrong with the camera in both the Z10 and Z30.

I have taken thousands of pictures with my old Z10 and close to a thousand on my Passport.

The Passport camera is flawed... pure and simple.

I believe I can read and the fact you're saying I can't obviously means you're looking at your own situation and possibly can't see the possible solutions being brought up. Every camera is different and we're just trying to help. I've had the z10 and z30 and the passport for me and the other people who I know have a passport the camera is the best BlackBerry has produced to date. Using photography terminology, pixel peeping while developing photos I can tell you for a fact is that the detail you get out of the passport camera is much higher compared to the lower megapixel z10 or the z30.

The biggest issue with the form factor of the passport is how it's difficult to hold for best stabilization which I have found is 2 handed photo shooting with the 2 index fingers cradling the middle of the back of the pp with the bottom cradled with your pinky fingers. This way you can use either thumb to lock focus on the display and the other one to take the shot very quickly after you've locked focus.

With the increasing technology of cameras, higher megapixels and more detail you have a bigger chance of blurry photos. This is the same complaint with DSLR'S at the moment with the Sony A7 and the Nikon D800 as with that extra detail captured it's more important than ever to find that perfect base where the camera is absolutely still or else there will be blurring of photos.

The passport and the LG G3 apparently share the same camera sensor but obviously different software. Users have also complained about autofocus issues, rebooting, etc. Not every camera is perfect and maybe your passport has a defective camera sensor. I would send it back under warranty and see if your next passport is better. It's worth a shot isn't it since you like the other parts of the passport?

    Good luck.

No, the passport has a different type of camera. It has OIS. The z10 and z30 didn't. This means that in low light, all they could do is increase the ISO to get the shot. No blurring, but grainy shot. Check out GSM arena's review, or dpreview for evidence of this.

The PP has OIS which means it can afford to leave the shutter open for longer. This results in a much better (lower noise) shot. The downside is that if the subject moves, you will blur. This is the same for Nokia, LG, apple in fact any camera with OIS. In order to take advantage of the BETTER hardware, you need to slightly change the way you do things. That is what the article from the apple site also said. You obviously read it?

If you want photos in less than ideal light to be blur free, use the flash - that's what it is for

I sympathise with you in that it is annoying when your photos don't come out the way you want. All the majority of people are saying is that this camera needs to be used differently. It is far superior in the hardware department (compared with z10/30), and the software is different to non OIS versions (I design cameras for robot vision in medical robots).

As I was suspecting. It's a software problem. My previous post has shown how great was my shoots in all environments and conditions. After the OTA upgrade to the latest 10.3.1.1581 I couldn't produce any great shoots with my Passport's Camera. So, I did this:
1 - Downloaded the autoloader http://forums.crackberry.com/bb10-le...oaders-995995/ to my device (Passport)
2 - As I always have my data saved to my 64 GB Class 10 Micro SD Card I'm never worried to erase all data. The only thing you'll gotta do is to setup all accounts and apps back again. Which is 1-2-3 steps.
3 - Camera back again with amazing results.

So with the autoloader, did you revert the entire OS to the earlier version, or only the camera? Could you please provide more details?

I know nothing about cameras but here's a quick observation. It seems that a camera is about as good as the screen you are viewing it on. I've seen 8mp camera photos look great on devices with great screen resolution and 13mp camera photos look poor on lesser screens. I've also seen dirty screen protectors make photos look poor. I guess as an amateur at best I find the Passport better than my Q10 and Z30.

Thanks! Thomas is my 9-years-old boy.

Sure, I decided to autoloader a fresh install not only the Camera. Another limitation I found: the Multi burst shoots are only for daylight conditions. If you are indoor or the light is artificial you won't get a focused shoots, the subject will be blurry and everything else will be nice.

There are techniques to take most advantage of the camera. I can firmly say that the BlackBerry 10.3.1 OS running on any BlackBerry 10 device since Z10 (I have'em all) is one of the best combination hardware and software out in the market.

Maybe you won't point and shoot as fast as you would do on the iPhone 6, but all the rest is superior. There are only few things that differentiates the Passport's camera to its precursors:
    13 megapixel auto-focus camera
    Optical image stabilization (OIS)
    5-element f2.0 lens
    Back Side Illumination
    6DOF video stabilization
1080p HD video recording at 60fps

The video stabilization is far better than the iPhone 6 and Galaxy 5. I can say in some situations it takes the post of the GoPro with a much better video quality at the end. Here is my video test made last weekend on a ATV, I asked my friend to record me towing my son on a bike.

But I think the flicker fix os, PassportSQW100-1/10.3.1.2480, also improved the camera a lot

Point and shoot pics are turning out OK. I haven't yet had to act like a tripod.

I understand it was said loading 2267 destructively would fix the camera butI'm posting this to say that I didn't autoload and my camera seems fixed after upgrading to 2480

    The camera is fine.

But am I the only one who cringes every time someone posts a square picture? The horizontal width is chopped off; you'll be surprised how much more you can see by not using the default square format. If you wanted a square picture you can always edit a 4:3 shot after but you can never get the full fov from a square picture. To me there is no benefit from taking a square picture.

BlackBerry phones have square screens. When you shoot square pictures, the 'viewfinder' takes up the entire screen.

Also, people who use Instagram (and take photos outside of the Instagram Android app or BB alternatives) might take photos in square format because cropping takes time.

As a matter of fact, everyone posting here with issues should install the 10.3.1.2480 update then come back, post their findings and maybe the thread title should change to "Update: Fixed or Solved". Autofocus works great after that update. Even on close ups. The autofocus stops on the correct focal point now.
