This was the best I could do... the pic is so poor in the high lights zones that my ability as photographer is questionable thanks to blackberry... in this chapter the passport needs urgent attention...

when you take a shot like that, with multiple lighting regions, or multiple focus areas, snap a couple...the first one without touching anything in case it comes out right, but for the second one tap the screen in the region that's different (the area of direct sunlight in your photo) prior to snapping the pic...you should end up with a nice shot.

Myself, the passport is a phone and not a camera. the phone is smart, not psychic. the square on the screen is the region it will assume you want in focus, balanced, etc...if its not the correct region just move it! I believe your tree shot is just the kind of thing HDR is designed for, but I never use it. i'd prefer more manual controls personally.

actually I just tried it and it did a fantastic job. try HDR mode!

we concluded in this thread that the passport camera is top-notch.
you must upgrade your o.s. or wait for your carrier to do it.. that solves a slow-to-focus issue. the rest of the complainers on here don't understand photos or smartphones..or cb10. ignore them and move on.

No, you, on your own and in the face of a pile of evidence to the contrary, concluded that the passport camera is top-notch. You still haven't actually made any sort of case to convince anyone else.

Thank you. Mind you, I'm not saying the passport has a bad camera, but I take issue with your claim that it blows other phone cameras away.

How does the panorama mode on the passport compare?

Great photo from the M8. It's not that the Passport isn't capable of taking quality photos it just takes time and the right circumstances. Focus and shutter speed could certainly be improved drastically.

oh no....you misread me. I see some nice photos here from other phones.
..of course there are other top-notch cameras in other devices..but not in the iphone, it seems.

my claim was that the passport has an excellent camera, and that as a smartphone, it blows everything else away.
I have not had a chance yet to try panoramic mode.

while experimenting with lighting just now my camera kinda half-crashed and was showing green flashing bars across the screen. the photos I took werent showing up...until I rebooted. there is still plenty of room for improvement on the software side, but this isn't an official release. hopefully the blackberry dev team, who may well be stretched thin these days view the camera as a priority. it is to us.
