Last night I was taking pictures indoors setting up a Christmas tree with my Passport and the pics turned out poor. The biggest pain was the long delay from the point of pressing the button to the several flashes to finally taking a picture.

A friend with an iPhone 6+ was taking quick and clear pictures.

Any ideas on how to make this better?

I just don't use flash. I use either night mode or automatic mode and then press and focus on the christmas tree.

My first passport had the same issues and everyone said that it was just janky software and all of them had similar problems...I ended up returning that one and getting a replacement from BlackBerry--the new one is a million times better, focuses more quickly and accurately, pics come out way better, no lag between hitting the shutter button and getting the pic to take. Just saying, might be a faulty device like mine was.

    You aren't alone...I can't capture my baby's pictures with Passport..focusing takes forever...

So now I carry Sony RX100 II with me; specially for pictures. Then transfer them to Passport via a Android phone or iPad or a PC and then utilise them for sharing etc via Passport...

It is long process but works mostly...

I had this problem when I was using the Leaked OS. From the moment I got back to the " original" , the focus problem disappeared.

The camera app might not have a huge number of features, but if you use what is available you can get great shots. The hardware is top notch. I find in low light, it is best to use focus lock, and night mode. If you have bright lights, use snow etc. If you want an instant point and shoot, this is not it. Take time to set the shot up, and you will get an awesome result. I've taken shots of stars, moonlit clouds, parks under moonlight and I have been gobsmacked with the results. Yes, it took a few minutes to set the shot up, but the end result was worth it.

Keep the, rear lens clean. Before taking a shot, clean the lens with an eyeglass cloth.
I seem to get better results not using the flash, especially when you are trying to shoot night time lights. You can try HDR or Night time mode. Use focus lock and you should get good photos most of the time.

As an aside, focus lock works with time shift too - awesome for lightning shots.
