Mine goes away without doing anything special. I just clean back as I clean the front part of BlackBerry.

It's a manufacturing defect that is common with all Passports.

You may not see it immediately, but just exhale slowly on the back (as if you were trying to clean your glasses), and the humidity will make it readily apparent.

It was theorized to be either adhesive from a protective film placed on top of the BlackBerry symbol after manufacturing, or something to do with the thermal curing process involved with molding the BlackBerry symbol onto the back material.

Hardly noticeable, especially with a hard shell on... lol

Hopefully later batches no longer have this purely cosmetic issue.

Add me to the list with the exact same mark on the back.. Not real happy about it and it does not look like anyone has been successful in permanently removing the discoloration..

I wonder what BalckBerry has to say about it?

Since this is still an issue for people:
Yes, my White Passport got the spot. I took a little liquid hand soap and it cleaned off. It hasn't come back and the back cover looks brand new again.

Got my Passport yesterday and mine has the same problem. It just looks like a big grease mark but considering thats where my fingers tend to lie on the back of the device when using the keyboard, I chalk it up to just sweat.
edit: Well after cleaning it the mark reappears with breathing on it or moisture. It almost looks like the texture is different from the rest of the back. Maybe it's caused by the embossing of the BB logo onto that spot?

Likely something or a chemical reaction occured during manufacturing.

Haven't tried the dishwashing soap yet. May try that next.

In all fairness the dealer probably reacted as many others would since most people would never expect a high end and high priced phone to have such a blemish.

The 'spot' is unacceptable in my opinion. This is not a $200 phone! It's a high end phone with a price tag to mach. The spot is ugly and makes the phone look like garbage.

Amazing that it's been months since this thread was started and Blackberry has done nothing to solve the issue. Mine arrived last week and it has the spot, the spot sticks out like a sore thumb and it makes the phone look cheap and ugly.

Someone asked me the other day if I spilled something on mine and I said no that it came that way. They shook their head in disbelief and said there is no way they would accept a brand new phone in that condition.

Imagine the media coverage if iPhones shipped like this?

My god this phone has issues. From screen separation to bending to spots on the back this thing is ripe with them. I hope the AT&T version of the phone has this stuff cleared up.

I too have noticed this spot not as prominent as seen here.

From what I have seen it appears to happen once when the device is a little warm and goes away when it cools down. Talking about the device getting warm when using it heavily, multitasking etc.

Heat and oil (from fingers) you get smudges. It's the material of the back. Am annoyed too but after awhile I just ignore it. Wiping it occasionally. Imagine the white passport and the smudge is visible. Black on black is fine. But not black on white.....

My back cover has a spot, but it's really not that noticeable.

My REAL issue is that the silver blackberry logo on the back is turning a copper penny color. I have NO idea why...
