You are correct as typically this is the case but not always.

Just bought 2- Z10's on shopblackberry last week @ $199 Canadian (with coupon code). Same price as the US web site.

In terms of the Passport, the $699 Canadian price is about what I expected while the American $599 was lower than I thought it would be.

This may be just my 2 cents in all the Passport hype, but I think a $200 Z10 is way better value than a $700 Passport (or any other phone on the market for that matter) as much as I really like the look of the Passport as both phones are functionally similar.

But if a Passport it must be, why would anybody buy a locked $750 Passport from a carrier when they can buy one unlocked for $700.

Telus has rights until october. other carriers cant advertise (from what the telus guy said at the keynote)

also, i would like to point out that in the keynote even Chen himself said he had no idea why it was $100 more in canada. he SAID IT HIMSELF! So the people bashing the upset canadians need to realize this. it is RIDICULOUS!

To make it more IDIOTIC, the contract price in the US is $250... the same as Canada. but if you want it off contract in Canada... give us $100, for no reason.
It's possible that Chen will have a word with these carriers about pricing.

Yes but the BlackBerry site is also selling them for 699 plus shipping plus tax. It is cheaper to get it at the Telus store than to order it directly from BlackBerry. Also, Telus announced the $200 2 year plan at the Passport unveiling today right beside Chen.....

Well it's 699.99 on shop blackberry. So we'll still bash you.
Nope...yer 99 cents to high, only $699.00 which is one hundred times more lower in price than you mentioned, so I geuss we get to bash 100 times more vigourously.

Rip off plans are a norm in Canada lol. It wasn't too long ago that we only had the choice of 3 year contracts.

To an extent, hedging against currency fluctuations. Having said that, sometimes the difference definitely feels inexplicable.

The price difference shouldn't be more than 50.

The are enough instances where the difference in terms of PPP is so big, that a big difference in price is justified.

Having said that, it also works the other way.
Especially for consumers electronics there are inexplicable price differences between the states and Europe (well, all the states who actually use the Euro).

It's what the cynic might call the 1:1 conversion rate.
1$ (american ofc) corresponds to 1 Euro (btw CB, it would be nice if the app finally supports other currency symbols. It kinda feels jingoistic by now) even though there is a difference of 1/3, if we look at the exchange rates.
So, to oversimplify the issue, it would be correct to say that the whole Euro-zone pays 1/3 too much for their consumer electronics.

I went to the local Telus store yesterday to buy the Passport. (I'm not a Telus customer) They didn't even have one on display. The guy kept it in the box in the back room.

I said I want to buy it outright and he said ok. I said I want it unlocked. He said Telus policy says you have to be on a 2 weeks plan and then you can come back and pay $35 to unlock it. I told him no thanks. I'l wait for Rogers.

You're very optimistic. Foolishly so. BlackBerry won't sell direct for a while, which means that this is the SRP for Canada and BlackBerry just killed any and all chances of this device being a success here. At this price, the unlocked iPhone 6 Plus 64GB is very competitively priced and a clear choice. Keep in mind that this device will cost you another $50 to unlock on top of the purchase price. That's only $49 lower than a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus.

I'm very sad because I was really looking forward to this phone. Unfortunately I will have to settle for a stupid iPhone. At least when I sell it in 6 months I'm going to get 85% - 90% of the value for it and by that time the Passport is probably going to be on Craigslist for $350.

I've been with BlackBerry for over 10 years, and despite the fact that I have used other devices in parallel, my main device has always been a BlackBerry. Looks like no more. I guess this is how BlackBerry got to where it is today. Just look at how many fans are giving up on this phone right now. More will follow.

come on guys , cant you see it... the same thing happened again last year and we all know how it ended....
Unfortunately this year ,if things dont go well the part of devices will dissapear from blackberry (10 millions a year) thats what Chen said
He also said for 599$ but everything is messed up ...
You cant sell a device from a company that is fighting to survive 700-750 euros!!!!!!!!!!!
You cant sell it so hight even if ''God ''was inside it ...
Unfortunately only apple , samsung etc can ...its a fact and everyone knows why ...
Blackberry is just killing itself .....
In my opinion the Passport beginning price should have been 400 euros max , 300-250 euros max for the classic and 150 max for the Z3 , so they could sell fast millions...
Only with the above prices you can hit the market , immediately (dont forget we are talking about a company that is fighting to survive)
Only the price matters for blackberry , and it must be very low so the world would buy it
If the price is hight everyone would go to the idevice ....
Now they will sell a few thousand devices and thats it .....
We all know unfortunately the end of the story .....
I really hope blackberry survives and im totally wrong

Walked into my local Telus store (Carleton Place Ontario) to check it out and there it was in all it's glory! Literally right in front of the door front and center. I had to stand to the side of door with my back to it to take this pic....its the first thing you see when you enter.

Passport is 0 off contract from Telus-img_20140925_154116.jpg

I had a nice talk about it and asked about sales...only one at this location sold and they had 4 left. That being said 3 other stores in the area closer to Ottawa were sold out...each had 5 as well.

I tried to hold and play with the display but the security tether was limiting my experience...the guy then came out with dead display phone (all there but no actual interface) and then I got a good sense of the feel.

I am waiting for the reseller that my corp/gov't gets phones from to get stock...likely a couple of weeks and I will be in the club!

I was going to buy outright but 750 was way too much. Since I was going to keep my current plan for next few years I didn't mind too much. Cost 425 to buy out older phone, and re sign up.
