Blackberry will be dead after this and the classic if they aren't careful.. Its not going to sell at that price. And even the teasers that the media is showing today look like the passport doesn't even work well. My wife literally just said that blackberry's new phone looks like it has problems after watching it on breakfast television....

Agreed, Canadians get hosed on everything they buy. In fairness, part of the problem stems from the fact we have a small market in Canada. Canada's sister countries, Australia and New Zealand, typically suffer from the same problem, although their relatively remote locations is a contributory factor.

Interestingly, the Passport is up for sale on the Telus website, but nary a peep about it on the official BlackBerry site.

Telus is a lot cheaper than Best buy. Which is $999. I assume the price will change after launch.

I think the best move for BlackBerry would be to sell it unlocked from them direct for $649. Heck, even 699 unlocked would be a better deal.

I'm sure they will have no problem selling their initial stock at $750 or even $850. But yes they are soaking the early adopters because they can. Bet you'll see them on Ebay for 1K+ since who knows what date stateside carriers will have it.
Already saw one on ebay for 1900.00 two days ago...don't under estimate the greediness of eBay sellers.

Yeah, the Passport is listed at 999$ here in Canada at BestBuy.ca and FutureShop. You still have to activate the Passport through Telus.ca, which lists the phone at 750$. Weird.

this is called place holder pricing. the real price does not go into effect until the device has been launched so we are bound to see a change soon

Tempting to finish the sale, but I will wait until after launch and see the availability per carrier

Hope I'm not alone in excitement for the launch, the leaked slide showing the speakers are 350% louder than an S5 has me wondering what else they have up their sleeves

Again, TELUS DOESN'T WANT PEOPLE BUYING OFF-CONTRACT. They'll sell to people who are desperate enough to pay this early-adopter tax, but I'll bet they don't expect to sell many at this price, either.
Top of the mornin' to ya! Here I am, sipping my morning brew and watching the launch event, well trying to anyway, but it doesn't work. OK, I guess it is what it is. Now I know BlackBerry will do us Canadians right. Wayne Gretzky, Canadian support, the whole shebang. Love it. Let me go find where I can order the Passport.

Oh, Best Buy and Fututeshop have it...let me just click on that link...holy mother of God! $999?! Surely a mistake...why don't I go to Shop BlackBerry. Ahh, yes, that's more like it, $599...but it says sale price...hmm, no matter, I'll just go to order here. Free shipping, fantastic! I'm pumped, just a few clicks away from the Passport now! What?! Only ships to the US?! Bah!!! Fine! I'll go to the Canadian site. And click, and...$699 and $22 for shipping, that's like $721 + tax, site unseen. BlackBerry, why you do me like this! Why!?!?

Closes browser. I guess I'll wait for the fire sale.

Lol this is a joke. And let's face it, this phone is horribly thought out. Every video it looks like people struggle to hold it in one hand. And they went with a raised camera face on the back of the phone which is begging to be scratched.
    Great work BlackBerry.

First, it takes 5 minutes to order online. Second, it's locked. So yeah, it's more $100 extra plus the legwork to go to Telus when it's all said and done. Not to mention that nobody will be able to unlock it for at least another week or two, and when they do, the low end of the price may be $50 if we're lucky. This isn't a popular phone.

Either way, no Canadian price is good. Best to go US unlocked. Actually, best to just wait for the fire sale.

Do you really think people are cross-shopping the Passport and the iPhone 6?
    That would be me.
But I would go down the rooted Android route, if I either think that the Passport is overpriced or the keyboard doesn't fulfil my needs.

(it probably helps that my employer is giving us an iPhone 6/+ as a corporate phone, if we desire that.)
