It also sells for $699 Canadian, which is quite a bit more than the equivalent US price. India is not getting singled out.

Maybe they're deliberately holding down demand so that they have more to sell elsewhere.

They are giving 5000 worth of some gift card and 5000 jet privilege miles. So getting this right after 4 months the price will come down to 39000..

If you can wait.

Another option... buy iPhone 6. use it for 4 months and then sell for 39000 and buy passport.

If high tax and VAT was issue then why Motorola launched moto x(2nd generation) for 32000 ($533) in india though it was launched for $500 in US,only difference of $33 and with BlackBerry the difference is $230!

I don't care. I love the device. Am pre ordering two as soon as it hits the site. One for father and one for me. I love the device. And I'm sure my father will too. I paid 55k INR for 5s. 50K for note 3. 50K seems.reasonable for a BlackBerry, at last. It's the premium brand that I love.

People who really want it so bad that they can't wait will buy it. The price will eventually drop when demand is lower, which is when others will people it. This is how business works and JC is a good business man doing this. People around me are calling me crazy for buying it now for 600 euros while I know that "eventually" prices will drop. But I don't mind paying a little more while I can, and there are a lot of Indians sitting in the same boat.

I am from the USA and I agree that our Canadian neighbors should have received the same pricing as we got, but I honestly think that Mr Chen was trying to spark some interest in the BlackBerry brand here and I think it worked based on the device selling out in 4 hours.

As far as pricing the device competitively in other countries? The are things like luxury and duty taxes that come into play that BlackBerry has no control over.

I think if someone really wants the device, they will buy it, no different the the iPhone 6 that's priced allot more overseas then here in the USA and they still sell like hotcakes.

Now the sale of z30 /z3/10 and q10 will again increase for a while.
But looking at the pricing it's not possible that any one will think of migration from android or iPhone. Specially when iPhone 6 is coming by next month mid.

LOL. I think it is time that India would dump the BlackBerry. 50K for android phone gives them pure native experience but our passport which is unique can't offer that coz of app gap.


Amazon is ok ok.

I had plans to buy it at first place. Will wait for a quarter for it to come in 35k range.

People are hardly gonna buy it after Z10 fiasco.

BlackBerry why can't you take a hit at first rather than a big inventory write down later.

And India doesn't have that big tax of $230 on a base price of $700.

Its insane cost and profit that they are in dreams of.

I guess it's good to assume Z10 and Z3 were the only devices that sold in good numbers.

Hey I'm not arguing for or against the pricing. I'm just highlighting the pattern of device announcements. It's interesting that the prices never match what the market expects. Honestly, I was WAITING for this thread to appear. Even the Z3 had a similar thread, yet according to the reports it sold well, so I guess we'll see what side the Passport comes up on.

India is a BIG BIG country...with people living in different walks of life and hence it's quite natural that views be mixed. BlackBerry cannot sell a product to please all kinds of people in India Starting threads with such negative bashing without clear facts is not right. As Blaze pointed out Z3 sold well...

If it doesn't fit your budget...it's just for YOU...not for everyone, so please don't be conclusive.

Do you think if the passport was priced $850 in US.then they would have been able to sell even 1/4th of that number . If you think so.. then I am afraid you love blackberry too much to see the reality.

On eBay they go for $ 850-1,000 currently and yes, I'm speaking Sold auctions only.
