Unfortunately that is a misconception, as per my example above, where something as simple as GPS on a BB10 device requires a working server-side component.
I saw that earlier. I was referring to OS basic that everyone refers always. Basic trifecta of email, phone and text where things go through carrier service and data. I'm picturing a degradation where certain things function because of E911 type requirements or redundancy systems but only until other providers pull services within 30-60 days.

I'm picturing the GPS example just not instaneous but a 30-60 day type domino effect.

All BB10 devices made since Nov of 2013 when Chen came on board were simply produced to burn through component commitments - including the Passport. The decision was made back then to terminate BB10.
Why do you keep saying this as fact? You don't know any of this. It's very misleading.

Wasn't there a recent interview where this was revealed as explanation of why it took BB as long as it did to exit hardware?

You mean Chen admitted to lying to shareholders in a recent interview? How remarkable!

I have evidence to support this conclusion from a major, reputable print source - as you well know. Not to mention the fact that any sane CEO would have done the same given the disastrous financial situation and imminent insolvency he was faced with.

Your inability to believe it, and your absolute lack of any contradictory information, is not on me.

If what you say is true, why is Chen have such high approval numbers from shareholders? Why do shareholders allow him to remain?

Was there a scientific poll of shareholders?

How many examples can you find of shareholders removing a CEO of a public company? It never happens because it's nearly impossible to pull off.

Prem brought in Chen, and Prem calls the shots. To fire Chen is to fire himself.

Did Chen say in an interview that they had decided to exit hardware at the time he was hired? Really? If he did, it sounds awfully self-serving.

Was the Priv also released to burn through parts commitments?

You'd still get rumblings from groups of shareholders. If there were small blocks against hiring Chen, you'd hear about it.

I think it's generally all thundering applause at BlackBerry shareholder meetings.

    Not publicly, obviously.

"Chen knew from the beginning the handset business was a dead end. But the transition had to be gradual, because handset revenue was a necessary cushion as the company built its enterprise software business. And it had to be carefully managed so as not to undermine confidence in the BlackBerry phone product line." - Globe and Mail

And no, the Priv wasn't about prior commitments - it was about a very low-risk, low-cost way to perhaps stay in the device game to support its UEM play. You can't even compare this to developing and supporting an entirely proprietary OS and specialised hardware. It was a quick, cheap experiment, which was followed by the DTEK outsourced transitional devices, followed by outright licencing.

Every shareholder gets polled when their shares are voted for all different matters put in front of them. Prem/Fairfax is but one large shareholder but not a majority shareholder.

People just sell the stock. Like myself. They don't organize shareholder revolts. You think Carl Icahn is battling for control?

These are the sorts of assertions that have me doubting the Android Brigade on this website.

So, you are suggesting a large group of quiet objectors are selling shares while BlackBerry stock continues to rise in value over the last few years?

The Thomson Reuters IBES Mean is a high hold, and provides a current average score of 8 out of 10 (compared to 6.8 for the telecom sector).

    14.6% 1-yr return, and 17.5% ROE.

I guess these objectors are not the sharpest tools in the shed.

Oh, jeez. I have so much patience! Look what I have to put up with!

The stock didn't go up because Chen was hired. It went up because Prem agreed to finance the company. Chen was welcomed as a "turnaround" artist, but it's like giving credit to Obama for winning the Nobel Prize after being sworn in.

I'm talking about his performance after he managed the company for a year or two.

Where in my post was I talking about 2013? My numbers come from a Reuters report dated today.

Last 12 months had a ROE of 17.5%.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This may be the most confusing statement in this entire thread. Patience about what? What compels you to come here and “put up with” anything at all?

I was poking fun at similar statements made by the Android Brigade to each other about BB10 users.

What is your location and budget ? One can find very decent deals on used KEYone's these days and even more so as time goes on.

Try eBay, Craigslist etc...You may find a nice used/refurbished model for 250-280 mark, where as a Passport would be cheaper but as Conite said, WhatsApp and Spotify apk's can stop at any moment so that may really be frustrating when that day comes.
I think the best place to find a good deal and selection on any used BlackBerry phone including the K1, is without a doubt Kijiji.

In my own experience, Craigslist had very limited selections and eBay is fine if you want to overpay.

It's a classified website/app, much like Craigslist. It's owned by eBay and been around since 2005. They have local listings for every city.
