Is the chin really plastic?? I would be kinda upset I ordered this morning hoping it was metal. I figured the Sim cover would be.

Should just be the sim tray in the back.

Wow!! The extra chin is a major improvement over the original!

    Silver Edition is tops!

Yes so much so that AT&T had it 5 months ago....

Congratulations on your purchase! I am on the fence so if you are kind enough to take pics of both the original and the silver side by side would be great... I read somewhere that the pics of the silver doesn't really make justice to the device in person, it looks better and more premium feel... and of course, any comment regarding performance, user experience etc, it would be very welcome... thanks in advance!

I have the AT&T version and the spacing from the letters 'Q,A,Z' to the outer edge is thinner than the silver edition. The dead space between the letters and sides has widened in the new version.
They seem to be the same as the AT&T version.

I've seen this pic before but the 'metal' of the frets and chin may be different than the sides. The more I touch the chin I think it's steel though.

There is no way that the steel is all one piece like that. You know how expensive it would be to machine that?

    Source for that image?

I think the frets and bottom chin is one piece and added as a top layer on top of the steel.

Does this look like a $2,000 device like Kevin suggested in his video? Or something close? Does it give you a WOW looking? Does it look premiums vs original passport and other phones? ...

I'll have to find a camera to capture both but I think CB has a side by side pic in the gallery. It's nicer in person than in pics IMO. It types much nicer and the feel just seems better in the hand. Performance is the same.

The frets and chin are integrated but not necessarily steel.

Does that picture really show a single piece, though?
There definitely seems to be a seam just below the bevel, and OP's photo also has the seams at the sides, that suggest the keyboard-and-chin plate is a separate part, that probably attaches to the keyboard assembly.

EDIT: Never mind - several posts to the same effect, and then responses to them, were apparently posted while I typed the above. :P

I don't know if I would say it's a $2,000 item. I really like the original but this device I would say 'feels' premium to the original. It's a nicer holding and typing experience. I've never felt a Porche design device so I would defer to Kevin's opinion on the value. I will say that I'm going to sell my original now that I have this.

From the BlackBerry insider blog I believe. It is multiple pieces though. Possibly three tied together. I remember Kevin saying and another video that there was two different tones of steel.

I think you may have answered my question by saying you are going to sell your original BlackBerry but.... you could just be tired of the black one. So if you were to buy one today new never had one which variant? Black, White, Red or Silver Edition?

I would choose the Silver just for the feel of the KB not because of the color. I also like the non-bevelled screen. I've never owned a red or white one. The black was great though.

No mine is perfect. Only very minor issue is one side of the sim door is not as flush to the body on one side. I'm OCD on BB devices and this is not even noticeable without close inspection.
