My preference would be to have the numeric keypad on the right. Seems like it would be more natural for a right handed person.

I'd have to agree!
There's already a few threads about onscreen keypad improvements including having the virtual keyboard at different orientations :P

But I'm left handed. Works for me!

The BlackBerry Assistant should have the text at the bottom as well.....
Sorry for hijacking the thread. That would be nice.... or put the 0 to the bottom....

Yes the numeric keypad is strangely positioned. Hope they fix this

I notice the additional on screen keys have a space bar?
I wonder why that is?
Is this because future blackberry all touch devices may mirror the passport key layout?
Is it because BlackBerry thought when highlighted it would be good to also be able to use the physical keyboard?
Is it because in earlier designs the numbers and symbols were on the keys?

There are modes where physical buttons press the virtual buttons; in those modes, space is still space.
If you are just referring to the number set when you pull up the symbols, it looks like the exact layout of the classic BlackBerry keyboard so that is probably why it's layed out how it is.
If you are referring to a keypad that shows up when you bring up the phone to dial out, I don't know. I'm still waiting semi-patiently for my Passport so I'm not actually qualified to be commenting here.

Good old reddit: 'this'
The zero to the left really messes with me.

For BlackBerry Assistant, note that you do not need to tap the text field to focus it before typing; you can just start typing.
Same here, plus I don't like where the 0 is placed when typing up a phone number. Prefer it on the bottom like a dial pad.I guess I'll get use to it since I've only had the phone 1 day.
On my Q10 and on my Torch the numeric keys were on the left on the keyboard. I don't see why the placement is a big deal on the Passport. BlackBerry simply followed the placement users would be used to. The zero placement is different but took just a few uses to get used to.

I had the Torch for many years and it was on the bottom.. are you talking about the touchscreen? In that case I NEVER used the touchscreen keyboard because at the time BlackBerry's touchscreen keyboards, imo, we're just awful... but I still loved my phones and the physical BlackBerry keyboards!

I have a hard time with the number 0 being all the way on the left instead of the bottom of all the digits ... For some reason it feels un-blackberry imo.
...just learn and get used to it!in time we all adapt and it becomes the norm.
I still have my Torch (God only knows why) & here is a screen shot of the physical keyboard - the numerical keys are on the left hand side. Mine was a 9800 I think - if that makes a difference

I had both the 9810 & 9800 (I think right? They were the OS6&OS7 versions) and it was the same, the only real physically noticeable difference was the weight and thickness :P
It must be the onscreen keyboard he was talking about :/

We're still on page 1, or is this post 2? Now how many pages would we be up to if BlackBerry has placed the number pad on the right after so many years on the left?
