I just got a Passport yesterday and I am quite happy so far with the camera. I have a Galaxy S4 for work which also has a 13mp camera and they look very similar in quality to me...

I agree but they should prioritize this issue since the camera is very important for a multitude of situations including my business.

I've done some experiments with Passport camera too and technically it's somewhat capable camera (rear one). With shutter speed set to 1/200 sec (the minimum you can get with manual settings) it sets ISO to whooping 23000+ in low light. With low ISO (100-200) in low light camera is able to give 1 sec of exposure time. I have to admit that it performs better than my Z10 and Q10 cameras and with right software has more manual settings. It definitely behaves better in low light than Z10/Q10. I still have problems with focusing even in relatively good lighting condition (which is extremely annoying, because Z10/Q10 do it pretty well), so I forced to use manual focus more times than I did with Z10/Q10 devices. So, overall I'm quite positive about Passport camera so far and took many good ones during my last holidays. Still hoping BlackBerry will fix issues with camera startup speed (much longer than with Z10/Q10), mode switching, focusing and noise. For the rest I can rely on 3d party devs

I was at a wine tasting event this past weekend which was held in a barrel room that was very dimly lit. There are approximately 40 people and all of them were trying to take pictures of this barrel room. Some tried taking pictures with the flash on this tried taking pictures with the flash off but all of them came out pretty poorly. I took a couple of pictures with my Passport without the flash and they came out very well. Everyone was amazed at the quality of the pictures and they all proclaimed that the Passport took the best pictures especially in a dimly lit area.

Hand held night photos are almost always going to have some blurr. Need to use a tripod and a timer to get sharp images.

Two tricks for hand held night shots. Either use the space bar, or better still use the timer. It reduces shake caused by pressing the screen. I'm actually quite impressed by the night performance. The passport has a fast lens with OIS - you just need to practice. Also use the focus trick - lock the focus on something bright at about the same distance, then move the camera back to your subject and snap away.

BlackBerry isn't good at Audio (Music) or Camera...I doubt they will be any better than what they are right now as that's not their priority.

As BlackBerry users I will always carry dedicated Camera for better shots of my Baby girls who is growing fast - I can't expect BlackBerry to keep pace with her speed of growing and their development efforts as such development efforts need razor sharp focus such as hiring the guy who gave super camera tech to Nokia. Apple snapped him the moment he was available.

Hi, I was getting really bad pictures - washed out, fuzzy, colors off - until I removed the protective covering off the camera lens on the back. If you have done that, then try some of the other tips the other posters have suggested.

Hey BlackBerry PP nation. Maybe it's just me,but how's everyone's experience with night time photos ? Mine = not impressed. Especially when shooting neon signs or red it seems. Attached photo for example. Washed out completely. Am I missing something ? A setting? Technique ? The quality is really awful.

Me and my photography friend are impressed with the colours of the PP camera. (I shoot a lot of film with my old Leica)
I like that they come out slightly under processed, so I can adjust to my liking.
This test shot is only given some contrast and a frame obviously. Oh, and I really like 1:1 ratio images!
Yes, focus can seem slow, but it also depends where the focus point is. I can live with that until the update.

Strange. I agree with the speed but I have been very surprised by the quality overall, especially in low light conditions.

It's like a digital camera. Wait till the square is green. With kids use timeshift or face detection. I prefer timeshift it they are wild or jumpy . The shutter time is beyond slow and I really like to see that if the camera detected no full light that the processor is getting running to support.

I like the camera like in the picture with the food. She how the light goes through the bottle and the fork and knive on left and right. It's a nice pic.

I also have jumping kids on a trampoline and it look sharp but with low light it get tricky. Flash works also great but only if people sit still.

Most often it's the user, not the camera. The first couple of pictures I took were out of focus, but then I started focusing manually, by tapping on the object I wanted in focus. It takes an extra split-second to get a perfect shot.

And I never use flash or the Auto mode. I really like the backlit flowers in the first photo, taken against a sunny window. The next close-up photo is of one of the same flowers, manually focused on the pouch. The petals are about 8 cm tip to tip. The third photo is of a very small flower, less than 5 cm across, with shimmering petals.
