I tried both the Android version of Facebook and whatsapp. They both work. The latest version of working facebook is 29-0-0-23-13 if I'm not mistaken. Whatsapp works straight away. Use the Android version for notification and website for browsing. Perfect. I don't like 3rd party apps personally because after I signed in I found I've already 'liked' their page without my permission. And I don't feel like paying a cent for a third party app while I can get the original app to work for free. Make sense?

I never cared about those apps anyhow. I don't need Facebook to make a phone useful. The passport is still one of the most powerful phones on the market, with or without Facebook or whatsapp.

My passport does what I need it to do right out of the box. Was never one to care about apps. My phone is used for work and allows me to do it all away from my computer. That includes messaging and social media without those 2 apps. Plus all the other things I get done on it. Using an iphone or Android for half the stuff I do so quickly would be a nightmare.

I can imagine this being a big deal if you use WhatsApp and Facebook. It also doesn't say anything good about the future of the platform.

To me, it makes no difference, as I don't use these services and never will.

Do you get message notifications in the hub too? Might consider getting the android version as I only use Fb for certain group notifications and messages.
