- Hello, everyone!
Decided to get a new Passport sealed off of eBay. Kind of sad I didn't use the device back when it was new. So many awesome design features I missed by having an iPhone. I must admit getting worried about the day I won't have it already. How long after first use have people experienced the emergency call only issue? Can I expect a couple of years from it at least? For people who have had both, how do the TCL device keyboards match up on quality? I didn't think anything could beat my old 9900 but this Passport keyboard is a rock.
Glad to be a part of the community even though I do feel like a Roman handed his citizenship long after the Germans had broken the door...

Hammered out on my Precious Passport12-14-18 10:44 PMLike 0 - I will watch out for them! Now BB10 support dies in 2019 but we should still be able to use the phone, email, and text functions just fine, right? Passport is the best machine for email composition and consumption. Would hate to lose that after a year only.

I am just a touch bit faster.

This works extremely well on the Passport, even better than the original Telegram app.12-15-18 09:54 AMLike 0 - I’ve never been a fan of BB10 compared to BBOS however I own all eight BB10 models. I prefer BBAndroid hardware myself. BB10 after 12/31/2019 is being speculated here on CB but nobody really knows with certainty what’s going to happen. The_Passporter is well intentioned but he’s never embraced BB traditional PKB over the unique Passport three row PKB so I’m not sure.....JK

To answer your question: you are entirely correct in that the phone will be able to use phone, text, and e-mail functionality without issue (your cell connection will of course remain carrier dependent) after 12/31/2019. This has been confirmed numerous times; all you have to do is use an autoloader to restore your phone's OS and utilize the app Ultimate Backup (made by Runisoft and available via www.runisoft.com since Blackberry World has now removed the ability to buy apps) to backup and restore your data and you will be good to go.
Be advised that other than sideloading there is currently no way to restore native apps without the use of a Blackberry ID, which many speculate may shut down on 12/31/19 as well. However, even if it does, stock app and any Android APKs will continue to work as they do now.
Enjoy your Passport and let us know if we can help! The odds are high that there is a way to do whatever you need to do.

Posted via CB1012-16-18 06:03 AMLike 0 - I am going to wait until at least the Key3. That spacebar clickiness issue would bug me quite a bit and I think in the 600's for that device at this point is a little steep. New tech on a Key3 might be worth that.
Posted via CB1012-16-18 11:09 AMLike 0 - Welcome to CB! Enjoy the Passport while you can. It is still a fun and great device and BB10 is still manageable if you don't need so many apps to get you through the day. CB has the most knowledgeable users on this planet and whatever questions you might have feel free to ask. We are here to help.
Blackberry Passport12-16-18 11:13 AMLike 0 - I am in the same boat as some other Passport users. I have a SE Passport and I love it and I love BlackBerry 10. My usage is limited for the most part but it works no problem.
I plan on carrying the Passport for another year until the officially EOL status. The battery on my device appears to be losing charge quicker and quicker but for me, it's the browser that's changing the quickest.
I want to pick up a Key 3 is the plan when they launch it and I am hoping it will have 5G capability in the future as I plan on using it for 3 years or so, I know it might be a stretch but I am hopeful.
The Passport has such a great screen, keyboard, speakers and overall build quality and specs for a 2014 device in 2018/2019. I really hope that the Key3 has a lot of nice goodies and is very well priced as that will probably be my next phone.

Blackberry Passport12-16-18 02:51 PMLike 0 - The battery on my Passport is not holding a charge all day. I will purchase a new oem battery from Amazon and replace it myself. I've been watching youtube videos on how to do it. I've replaced several batteries for other phones with no issues and replacing the Passports battery is doable.
Blackberry Passport
I'm going through a charge or two a day now with heavy heavy use. If it's a mild day, than I can go with 1 full charge for the most part.
I just want to see how long it will hold up for as I plan on holding the device for another year at least, we'll that's the plan.
