Hi,

I'm using the Passport since a few days and I'm so far happy with it.
But there's a big BUT: The reception quality seems to be worse than that of other BlackBerrys and phones!

Where my xperia Z ultra or my Z10 shows LTE/4G the passport is already on EDGE :-(
Same location and carrier!

Is my device defective or do you have the same experiences?

My Passport works better than any of my previous BlackBerries, hands down. I have gotten compliments on how well my voice sounds on phone calls.

Thanks, but I don't refer to voice/call quality, only the mobile network reception strength!

I can't even pick up a single 3G signal, having to send my device back tomorrow morning because it'll only lock on to 4G...
Re-installed the os and everything I even taken to installing a leak it's a real shame :/ such a good device too

For me it's about the same signal strength than the Z30 and both phones are better than my Note 3. Might depend on the region you are living in. I am in Germany on Vodafone.

My signal strength is noticeably better than my Z10, and much better than my HTC 8X running WP8. I'm on T-Mobile.

I don't own the passport so don't know about it. But I can honestly say is that at my apartment the network was so patchy that I almost thought it was the phone problem. so I decided to swap my simcard with a friend and immediately noticed that the problem was with my sim card. Went in for a new one and now no more dropped calls, better signal reception, faster download.

Suggest a sim card replacement. Mine was over 5 years old.

Tested it again. Simcard is new. Reception is worse than my z10 and my xperia Ultra. Where both devices show 3g with strong reception (4 bars) the Passport only shows Edge with good reception. :-(

Is it defective?

Even a new SIM card can be a dud, if possible go to your provider and ask them if they can give you a new card to see if it helps. I find my Passport to have the best reception I've ever had from a cellphone.

Can't really tell. The cell tower is only half a kilometre away from home so I always have five bars on all my phones! Away from home I can't say it is any better or worse than the other blackberries I have had.

Do you have casing on your phone? Try ruling out 1 by 1. Are you using official or leaked OS(check radio file). Sim card maybe? Could be some settings on your phone (maybe the carrier store rep can help you?) Or the case you have maybe blocking the antenna? Hope it helps.
P.S. Maybe you have 'lead hands' like I do.LOL. Sometimes I find that when I'm holding my Q10, the signal strength drops, but that's just me.

But:
I switched the mobile network settings to "3G only" and suddenly the Passport
shows 3G instead of Edge on the same location. So it might be a software related problem - but this is only speculation.
You only had it a few days. I experienced something similar in the beginning. However, after a week or two I wiped the device and the issues were gone it seemed to have adjusted and I'm seeing LTE almost always. I was afraid that there was something wrong since my Z30 performed excellent out of the box without issue. I've noticed exceptional performance on my Passport and it works in areas where my Z30 would drop out. I'm in NJ using Tmobile. Passport is awesome.

I noticed it too but a week or 2 later it solved everything out and I also noticed that the problem came back with upgrading to leak 10.3.1 so decided to go back to default and wait for proper update from carrier

My Passport cell reception is definitely poorer than previous Q10. Phone quality seems alright for the most part but I miss far too many calls cuz of poor cell service! Rogers have had me change some network settings but that didn't seem to fix things either. Replacing sim card is next step. I am doubtful but hopeful that will be the fix.
I am getting very frustrated with all the software issues that don't work properly on this damn thing!

On the contrary my Passport has the best reception over all the other phones I owned or compared to, including my Z30 which is the the second best of them all.

My Passport has a stronger signal than my Z10 had. I am on AT&T and my home never has LTE. I find that the signal strength is much better, I can be in my basement and get 3 to 5 bars when on the Z10 I only got 1 to 3 bars. My city is on the edge of the LTE signal so I don't always see LTE
