I just got my BlackBerry passport replaced under warranty due to faulty external microphone and double typing issue. Now, with this brand new replaced unit, I am not able to connect to my carrier.

    I have done the following

    1. Security wipe
    2. Sachesi update from 2747 to 2869
    3. Reload OS from Link
    4.SIC + 2747 + security swipe
    5. Cross tested with my gf's passport, no issue on her phone with my sim
    6. Even went to developer mode via escreen://

The sim works fine with the other passport as well as my 4G pocket wifi device. It's getting really frustrated that this is the 2nd replacement within two months. The last replacement had faulty keyboard illumination unevenly, plus a cracked back.

Now, the second unit is brand new, but I can't connect to the network. Frustrated how BlackBerry QC is so poorly managed.

Can anyone help me solve this issue?

I have, and the provider said that it should not make any difference.

As long as your provider's UMTS and LTE operating bands capabilities are compliance with your Passport configuration and your SIM card is working with other devices, you should be OK'd... most likely, you have another defective device... there are also reported cases of SIM card tray / slot issues, it may be the culprit...

That's what I have figured. That said, this replacement unit is a brand new unit, and that is certainly not acceptable quality from BlackBerry. This is the 2nd replacement handset.

BTW, this phone was manufactured on 12/04/2015, which is a brand new device. If it was a refurbished device, it could be faulty.

See that one screen shot with the gear and letters APN?

    tap it
It will open another screen that will show what network your APN is set to.

Based on your screen shots, the phone is not set to a network.

    After tapping that APN icon.
On the next screen at the bottom you will see an option to reset APN.
tap on it and see if it automatically resets the apn for you.

If not, than try manually setting the apn.
I had to manually set the apn on the very first passport I had.

Well, use the same Quality Controller that made mistake by releasing products that have SIM card tray / slot defect without giving recurrent training or any corrective action to improve his/her competency and to prevent re-occurrence of the same mistake, will result to another released of defective unit...

I used to work in a semiconductor company, and I can tell you that it happens a lot - more than what we thought... especially those organisations that are implementing cost reduction program...

Thx for the input. With APN, it's set to "internet" by default, and I have reset and manually set numerous times, yet still no luck. I guess I will have to file another RMA.

I understand there always be potential of receiving a faulty unit regardless brand new or not. Yet, by contacting the retailer I purchased my unit from, I requested a final inspection before they shipped out the unit and they claimed they did.

That said, they claimed the unit was carefully reviewed and inspected by BlackBerry before they issued a replacement unit to the retailer and retailer would ship to me upon.

This indicated that their words were full of BS, which I hate to say it.

    Who's your carrier ?

Reason I ask is, the apn for my carrier is fast.tmobile.com

And most apn I have seen are usually a .com or something more unique than the word internet.

I tried emome under APN, and here were the screen shots. This was by manual scan, but it never connected. Needless to say, the auto mode never worked, unless I step outside of the building. It was never the case with my previous passport nor my gf's.

Have you tried another SIM? I have seen cases where one SIM works fine in some devices, even the same model, and not others.

I'd go to a carrier store and have them try smother SIM card.

If that doesn't fix it it's RMA time.

Thanks for the input and advices.

I have contacted the retailer in UK and requested the third RMA, which will most likely take another 3 weeks to have it processed and shipped back.

The phone is literally brand new, manufactured 12/04/2015, yet unusable condition upon arrival.
That said, as much as I love how productivity BlackBerry has been serving me, incidents like this do wear out my passion towards BlackBerry in general.

I am a very problem solving oriented person, and I can't tolerate problems like this again and again, not to mention about others who are not tech geeks like me.

I hope BlackBerry will remain on the market and keeps the great innovation work in the headset industry. That said, BlackBerry needs to ensure their quality before anything is given out to their customers.
