By the way, the Magic Earth app (as stated above) does have everything up to date just as Google Maps in the area of my example.

Good to know. Just moved mine around to the Trans-Canada, that is impressive for a 2014 app! Thanks,

It's good to have backups just in case bbmaps fails. Where do I find that app?

Thank you very much! Good to know that the app is updating. I have also re-installed Cobalt's apps and Google maps is fully functional now. I do however prefer the Native app! Thanks again, it is much appreciated,

    It's not a native app - it's a mobile website wrapper.

Ok. What exactly does that mean? Does it get updated? What website is it linked to?

    Google.com/maps.

It means it pretty much just calls up the website, but may add some notifications.

That sounds like it would get updated. How can this be verified?

The website is always up to date. It's direct from Google.

This is very good news! So Blackberry Maps will not die until Blackberry kills it. Nice!

And that means what exactly? It's still Google right? Google is not going anywhere.

I think you and conite may be talking about different apps, I believe you are talking about BlackBerry Maps and conite about something else.

I believe BlackBerry Maps gets its info from Tom Tom and is not anything to do with Google Maps.

Sorry if you are talking about the same app, just wanted to clarify if you aren't.

Let me rephrase, how do you get Google Maps to work on BB10? Perhaps I misread your post, did you mean in your post that you use Google Maps on a devise other than your BB10?

I'm sorry for the confusion. Yes, I end up using Google Maps on my KEYONE when I need route info, but us native BB10 Maps 75% of the time when I just need some orientation.

I will just add that BlackBerry Maps is "current" in that the traffic info is up to the moment current. The mapping is as current as the source it comes from is. As noted, it's been coming from TomTom, but I don't know how often that is updated.

There is a subdivision that's been around for a year near where I live that has not made it on BlackBerry Maps - and I just checked. Google has it, but not BB Maps.

Now, other recent roads do show up, so at least the data is live instead of part of the app. These roads are new since the last OS update for BB10.

Although, I still have a Garmin Nuvi that's pretty old in my wife's car. You have to manually update the maps on it, and I just updated it a couple of months ago. That same subdivision still isn't on their maps either. I'll have to check for updates again.

Garmin and TomTom both use different base sources for their maps. TomTom from TeleAtlas (which they've owned since '07) and Garmin from NavTeq. Google Maps used to use TeleAtlas, but now they do their own mapping. At least in most places.

Native maps app gets maps from the internet, but if you're fine with sideloading this app works really well on BB10 and downloads up to date maps for offline use.
