There is no way to bend a passport under normal usage and circumstances, So assuming your telling the truth I think maybe the battery shorted and swelled up. If so send it back to Blackberry right away and get a replacement.
I am sending it to them. We will see what they say.

What I see here is a bump in the middle of the device with screen and back popping out. And I believe this might explain, as it is barely possible (many tried) to bend the device, even with exagerated force applied. YET, if - say - your battery has "swolled" then it's totally another story as it will modify the "general structure".

Q: Is the device working normally ? what about your battery life ?
Did you ever used once a non genuine BlackBerry charger, even "for a minute" ?
The phone appears in all other ways undamaged. At least externally. I am using the CB10 app to read and post these messages just fine.

Obvious a tool was used? Why in the world would I bend my new device?

You people are ridiculous. There is no other damage to the phone. I am still using it to type and post this very message.

Don't pay attention to the trolling. They need to come out and say their piece. No way around it. You should see the incessant pollution in some of my threads about Passport issues. This is nothing. It's best just to ignore them. Leave the facts in your thread and let them embarrass themselves.

Cheap materials and poor engineering. Seems to be the story of the Passport. Good job guys
Cheap remark without getting the touch and feel of the device. Passport has no history of bending and this bending may happen only when abuse on the device happens or may be just a one off case!!

Calling the OP liar and senselessly defending the Passport while being fully ignorant about the fact that the phone is neither flawless nor does BlackBerry make top notch hardware as the norm, would classify as trolling. I've had 9 Passports so far. One has been close to flawless. The rest had a myriad of issues, from smaller stuff like light bleed and uneven keyboard lighting, to large issues such as malfunctioning keys, stuck pixels, and screen lifting away from the frame. 5 out of 9 have had larger issues. Heck, even my limited edition Red Passport has stuck pixels and a keyboard that feels like the keys are about to fall off.

Also, the Passport bends. If you apply pressure diagonally in the opposite directions (corkscrew twist), the phone is incredibly malleable.

Don't get me wrong. The Passport is an awesome phone. It is not perfect however and BlackBerry would be better off to fix its manufacturing and sourcing issues. Some of the parts that are used are clearly sub-par in quality.

I really don't understand what would compel some Crackberry users to throw other users under the bus rather than to admit that a Passport could get bent. Are the defense mechanisms that strong? Is it really that important for you to believe that the Passport is immune to bending?

I guess all it takes is someone posting a pic of a obviously bent Passport to get the local townspeople to start lighting torches.

Interesting that you are calling longstanding members of this forum "trolls". Ok, I am not calling the OP anything. I will simply ask those reading this thread to zoom in on the photograph and take a really close look at the image and phone, then come to your own conclusions.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Obviously it is a defective phone. Have my Passport in my front jean pockets most of the time (with no case) and I haven't had any problems with it. It can be tight pulling it out of my pocket. Have dropped it several times on hard surfaces with no problems. I'm waiting for a case now though. I know it's the best way to protect our phones. Unfortunately, defective phone do and will happen. Overall the Passport is strongly built from my experience. Really hope BlackBerry fixes it for free, or gives you a new phone. IMO we should be able to carry our Passports in our front pant pockets without this happening. Please keep us updated, I'm really interested how BlackBerry deals with what happened to you. I know so far you have mentioned they are sending you a box, so that you can send it back to them.

I think a lot of people are simply used to smaller phones, and don't realize that the bigger the phone is, the more likely it is to be bent, because you have more leverage to bend a longer phone and you have less structural support per inch. It wouldn't matter if it was an iPhone, Passport, or whatever - if it doesn't have a solid frame, it can bend. Ironically, an all-plastic phone is superior in this aspect, because, while the plastic can bend, it's more elastic and will go back to its normal shape. Non-solid metal frames, such as the iPhone 6 and Passport, are more likely to bend, and once bent, will stay bent.

iPhone 4s were constructed in a similar way (a hollow metal frame), but because they were much smaller, the frame had more relative rigidity, and with less leverage, it was much harder to bend. The iPhone 5 had a near-solid frame (most of the back side was part of the frame), and again, no real bending issues. The Samsung S3 and S4 had a nearly solid slab of magnesium, while the HTC One (M7 and M8) are a solid aluminum frame - no bending issues. The S5 is all plastic, and while that might give a "less premium" feel, it also won't have bending issues.

Any design will be a compromise of materials used, weight, price, and "feel." Both Apple and BB used a thin metal outside frame to give a premium "feel" while minimizing cost and weight, but due to the large size of the phones making bending more likely, both companies underestimated the strength needed to prevent bending during relatively normal use.

Perhaps we need our own MobileNations Warren Commission with distinguished members headed by Dieter Bohn to examine all the film and interview the witnesses - not that it would make any difference to the true believers.

from the looks of the picture...i would have guessed that you wear tight jeans or pants. But you said you dont wear tight stuff (depending what you call tight)

however, my best guess if it was in your front jean pocket was that you probably were squatting or in a position that tightened the front of your jeans right up. Depending on the position of the phone in your pocket, if your were leaning in a certain direction while squatting or whatever....you would put more then enough force to bend something in your pocket.

I wear baggy (like a relaxed fit or loose fit) jeans...and I have completely bent something out of whack (that wasnt that fragile) by squatting down or whatever I did.
I forget what the hell it was...but i remember when I had it out I was like how the F$#* did I manage to do that.....then I realized it was because I leaned forward and my jeans were very tight (cuz I was squatted or whatever to stretch the jeans out)

I never put my passport in my front jean pockets for exactly that reason....also cuz its a bit tight to get it in
    This makes sense.

Next time I do something stupid with my phone and damage it, I'm going to start a thread, too.

Seriously, what's the point of showing off the damage you did to your phone? I chuckled about Bendgate, but my opinion of the people complaining about their bent iPhones was the same: use some common sense and don't be so careless about where you stick your device. It's not a key ring.

No. It was in my front jeans pocket. It had to have gotten torqued in some way, but I didn't put it in a vice or stomp on it or anything.
No way did it bend in that fashion, dude. I simply do not believe you. I believe you are spreading misinformation.

I've been using this thing for almost three months now. Have dropped it hard on the pavement a few times. Have sat on it. Carry it in my front pocket all the time. Have actually *tried* to bend it. It's built like a tank.

The laws of physics say that you applied a pretty large amount of force to it to bend it like that. The fact that you say, "I didn't..." is pretty much a dead giveaway that you did.
