I am down to about 5 hours of battery life although it usually involves playing audio or using as a hotspot for about half the time it's on. The battery drain is becoming a big problem as is the slow charging.

Question: can these types of batteries gradually deplete? I thought that they just failed once they were used up -- not gradually depleted.

Question: could a single Android app such as the Pebble app be causing this? This was a big battery drain before but I stopped using it. Could it be on in the background?

I have an unlocked PP and am considering either: (a) taking it apart and installing a new battery or (b) buying a silver edition for the better keyboard and typing experience. Thank you for your input.

Actually these kind of batteries do deplete over time. However they usually don't deplete heavily after not even a full year of use. Usually you gradually start seeing effects after about 18 to 30 months. Depending on the way you charge it as well as simple environment reasons. Heat for example is never good for those batteries, be it a hot environment or a heat from using a high capacity charger. There is a reason for example why companies like Samsung actually allow quick charging to be turned off. They wouldn't include it if quick charging doesn't have downsides now wouldn't they?

Hotspot in particular is always a huge battery drainer in my experience, especially when coupled with a not ideal cellular signal.
Of course apps can cause this too, ever since the first BB10 devices got released, we had such user reports. Especially when some Android apps running wild you might see a heavier drain.

IMHO the easiest way for now would be sharing your battery performance. After charging up to 100% on a typical day, just follow your routine. Once the battery hits 20% capacity, open up your device monitor and take screenshots of the data and apps draining your battery. Share those screenshots and let the community have a look.

As a fun note: I once tried a small mail provider and testet their services. I quickly noticed a huge battery drain even when not using the phone much. Turned the PIM service was running rogue when using IMAP for that particular provider - and I wasn't the only BB10 user facing such an issue. So sometimes a very unlikely source could be the reason for a phone's battery problems.

Thanks. Interesting. I will try try do this. It would be better than buying a new phone for no reason. Geez, the battery drain is out of hand and it's on a charger nearly all the time now when at home or work! It's about to run out of juice as I type!

What strikes me as strnage is no othe reports of bad batteries on CB which makes me think my battery is an outlier.

Have you installed any new Android apps lately? Before going crazy I would remove all Android apps and test the battery life.

If that doesn't work run an autoloader and only setup, from scratch, the items you have to have and test the battery.

While it is possible the battery is already bad the higher probability is there is an app or a corruption in the OS causing it.

Maybe this image will help. I really hate rebuilding my phones' OS because I don't like losing any copies of old emails, bbms, etc.

If it is the battery -- which wouldn't shock me -- I might install a new one.

On the other hand, my Android apps run weird and have been messed up after I installed the Pebble app. Sometimes the Pebble app (Android) opens up when I open a different Android app. I suspect this could be the culprit if it is an app.

I should have noted that very early in this charge cycle it said I had five hours left. Also, I charged the phone in my car during this graph above for about 20 minutes so this was with some help along the way.

An update on battery use. Again I need to plug in after four hours of use. No app seems to be killing the battery but maybe this app manager thingie is not perfect.

Your Standby should not be using that much, unless you are in a very bad cell service area.

Even when it is fully charged it only shows about five hours of battery life. .To me this indicates that it might be the battery after all.

As already stated your Standby drain is way too high and it should be much less. Please also post some pictures of the other apps in the list.
Doing a clean install is always a hassle, however there is quite a chance that your problems will carry over to the SE Passport after you install your full backup.

The rest of my apps are all under 1%. Why is standby an issue at only about 5-6 percent? Doesn't this figure mean that standby has used 1/20 or so of all the power used since the last charge?

Maybe I am not understanding the meaning off this figure.

It's not the battery it's the standby mode the issue. Something is draining your battery as soon as you don't use your phone.

Try a hard reset, you have to press both sound button until the device restart on is own.

Eh your pic shows it at 28% no? But seriously have you tried seeing what happens if you turn hot spot off for a day. I know that drains my battery like a mother*****r

The above figures are about pretty much normal, an almost 30% Standby drain is not.

Oh, I forgot that there's an Android app manager you can download that will show you all your android apps running in background so you can kill the app. Sorry can't remember the name of app tho

Sorry for creating that confusion. I see the Standby usage at 28%. (On the Crackberry app I can't look at old messages while typing.) If this means that it is using 28% of the battery it still does not account for all of the poor battery life. Maybe it means something else.

I will look for that Android app manager but I think I looked for one before and was scared off by the permissions or the bad reviews. Is "task manager" a good one?

I don't see an app called Task Manager that fits the bill. The only one with decent rating is for calendar reminders. (Maybe the poster was thinking of the Windows OS task manager you get with control-alt-delete.)

I went down this path before and ended up looking for Android apps running in the background using the BlackBerry native OS. If there is a good third-party app could someone please provide the exact name and publisher?

I am still hoping to figure this out before buying a new battery/device or rebuilding my system. Here is another image of battery use from today (don't tell anyone I use Tinder):

Reinstall your OS first. Try clean install and don't recover. Take it as a new phone. I am having the same issue. After several try and error, I understand it is not the battery that goes wrong. It is the system or the main board. I even switch the main board with another one( I have four Passports) and the battery is doing well with another main board fitted in. I suggest that you try 10.3.2.680. I can get 14 hours of average time while I only get 8 or 9 when I was running 10.3.2.2339.
