Basically the size of my Music folder on my PC is 41GB. When I synced it onto my media card it shows as 32.5GB. Does it get compressed on the media card ? How can I actually see how many songs I have on my BB Passport ?

Doesn't sound like compression I think you may not really understand how file systems work.

A file is broken down into segments (sectors) that are linked together that hold all the data. The size if each of these sectors affects the amount of waste in the last sector and the amount of waste caused by the number of sectors used.

Each sector typically has a header that tells the OS where the next segment is located.

Smaller sectors cause more waste for larger file sizes because the number of headers is larger. Smaller sectors cause less waste for smaller file sizes.

Larger sectors cause less waste for large file sizes but more waste for smaller file sizes because the amount of waste in the last Sector can be larger than the sector header data.

Because of this difference in formatting a group of files will take up a different amount of space on each file system unless the sector size and file system type are identical.
