- I have been typing for a while and can't seem to get used to hitting the M key when reaching for it. I always fall short and hit the N key. It's frustrating when I can't hit the right keys when I reach for them. Does this happen for anyone else?
I suppose this can be summed up as not getting used to the bottom row of keys. It doesn't feel natural.
Posted via CB1011-17-14 09:53 PMLike 0 - Yes, you aren't. My thumb also stopped short of 'M'. Just have to practice typing more. Unless you're jumping between Q10 and Passport, there tend to be some confusion.11-17-14 10:08 PMLike 2
- I feel you, too. I wrote a review on day one where I almost felt like I made a mistake.
But honestly, you will get used to it each day. And by the end of two weeks. You'll be a complete natural.
I even wrote how I didn't like having to 'get used' to a typing format.
And even now, I sometimes wished they had done something more conventional with the keyboard. But it is actually remarkably efficient.
Used the swipes. They save more time than you'd ever think.

I was getting so frustrated I had a couple of days where I reverted back to my Q10. My experience and advice to you is this....
Stay with it. Everything clicked for me after a couple of weeks. It's almost impossible now to go back to a smaller screen.
As others have said your muscle memory will adjust. The biggest issue I had was how to comfortably hold the Passport in my hands and type. Once I found that I was in business.11-18-14 01:22 AMLike 0 - There is also an app in BlackBerry World called ExtremeTypist. It's basically just an app to see how many words per minute you type at but after a couple of days using that app to practice my typing, I was flying on this thing. I feel like I am finally up to the same speed that I had on my Z30 only with more accuracy now, thanks to the physical keys. So, in turn, faster.

Posted via CB1011-18-14 04:52 AMLike 0 - Took me 3-4 days to get use to it while on the other hand my dad took about 2 weeks to get use to on his, everyone's different just give it time and you will notice a difference
Posted via CB1011-18-14 05:32 AMLike 0 - My biggest issue at first was instinctively hitting the "alt" key (Z on the passport) when I needed a ? or.! Had lots of z's on the end of many words for the first couple of days. Of course, like everyone else, I quickly adapted and now can fly through lengthy messages.
The only change I still haven't mastered, and likely never will due to my thumb size, is swiping up to insert the suggested words. My thumb carries over the final fret and I activate the touch screen 50% of the time. But honestly it's no matter because I manage just fine with hammering out full words with the keyboard.
Love this phone. I wasn't sold at first glance months ago, but BlackBerry knocked this one out the park!
Posted via CB1011-18-14 06:04 AMLike 0 - I had a similar experience because I was used to my Q10's keyboard. Give it a few more days and your thumbs will adjust. I am now to three weeks (I think) with my Passport and it doesn't happen anymore.
What's much more annoying: The virtual shift key often doesn't activate when I click, it seems like a very short press isn't enough to make it work. I already wish BlackBerry would've included physical keys for shift and alt.

Practice your typing with the 'extreme typist' app. It's in BBW.

I have been a Bold 9900 user since its introduction (Bold 9000 before). I have two of them (one for work, one for personal use). I am also using (mostly for Internet browsing) iPhone 5s. I almost never type on it. I originally thought of getting Classic but started to think more and more about Passport. Will I be able to go between Passport keyboard and my Bold (or iPhone)? I have been a Blackberry user for more than 12 years.11-18-14 06:59 AMLike 0

Posted via unlocked PASSPORT11-18-14 07:06 AMLike 0 - Thank you. I am very much used to Bold 9900 keyboard. I will always have to use two devices: work - iPhone 6 or old Bold 9900, personal use - Bold 9900, Classic or Passport (with some use of 5s if I do not get Passport. The question is if it makes sense to introduce Passport into this mix.11-18-14 07:23 AMLike 0
- This is just another reason the CrackBerry forums is an awesome support system. Thanks everyone for taking the time to write your responses. I absolutely love the device and will definitely be keeping it, but the keyboard scared me a bit. I've always been a very fast typer on BlackBerry phones so I expected it to just click. It is already getting better. Excited to keep at it and get back to that lightning speed.

I had my passport for about three weeks now, and I am still getting used to the end buttons like Z and M. (Correction: any keys on the bottom row). But as I type this response, I can tell you that I am not looking at the keyboard, I am looking at the screen as my fingers do the magic work.
It will work for you. Keep on practicing. One of the best way to practice is to respond to crackberry forums and help fellow passport users out, and sharing your experience with others. Good luck!

Not sure why they didn't go for something closer to this. My extra buttons are crap, but the basic idea is solid. Not sure if the camera could have been that close to the screen but make the keyboard keys just a tiny bit smaller and they would be inset from the edge more and take up slightly less vertical space. Should be enough to move the screen a couple mm away from the camera.Evindzer likes this.11-18-14 12:21 PMLike 1 - http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...b83093b1f3.jpg

Sent from my BlackBerry Passport11-18-14 12:49 PMLike 0 - Hmm. That actually looks really good. But who knows if it would have been easier or harder to type that way as your thumbs need to travel even further down. Try to reach your fingers below the third row. Kind of awkward to reach down there with my thumbs and my hands are big. The phone is almost too wide to allow for it. Idk. I could be wrong.
