So when i tried to order the Passport from the US shopblackberry site i was met with a "out of stock" message. So i tried messing around and seeing if i could get it from another countries shopblackberry site. So look at what i did...

Went to BlackBerry Canada Online Store - BlackBerry Passport - Black (Canada/Canada),
added the vip passport to my cart,
changed the site to US from the drop down menu,
went to my cart and paid!
i just received confirmation in my inbox

the reason you have to switch to US dropdown is because at check out you can't choose a US address.

this is for US residents BTW

I don't think the VIP went out of stock at any point. The coupon stopped working for it.

Actually USA Passport VIP is still available and when you selected region as USA, it just charged you the total 699 in US dollars.
You can directly go to US model at below link.

Yes. It must be an aesthetic difference(s) because there is only one radio configuration.

Edit: confirmed. The bands are the same as in the "commoner" version of the phone.

I don't get how an all black version would ever be a VIP device. The exterior frame is still stainless steel so it's probably painted black, which would be more susceptible to show scratching/wear.

Plus the exposed stainless steel looks so good imo. A perfectly sharped edged rectangle, with exposed hardened stainless steel I-beam frame. It's like an engineer's dream, really. Lol

I guess it's preference..

But!! I agree with you..if it was painted or covered with some black material/solvent..if it would scratch, it would show off the silver..which would look hideous IMO.
