In taskmanager app I can close them off, but they would relaunch in less than 10 seconds. Is there a way to prevent them to launch automatically?

Can you elaborate on how Ghost Commander works for this case? To my knowledge, Ghost Commander is just a file manager, isn't it?

In one of the panels, select "home". This gives you options like smb, local etc. Select application from the list - you might need to scroll. You get a list of apps. Select the one you want to kill. Now select manage. To kill it, now select force stop. It is now gone

Problem is that this doesn't work for Android apps. You can't deny the permission for operating in the background....

Hi, are you going to try Ghost Commander? I also want to know if it's possible to kill an app and have it stay dead. In TaskManager I see that they reopen after a specific length of time depending on the app. Some apps it's a few seconds, and some seem timed (half an hour or longer). Probably trying to sneak in some data mining

In the app manager you can disable them running in the background. Yes, they eat memory and battery too much.

Tried it. From the looks of it, the same thing can be done in taskmanager too. In taskmanager, instead of tapping on the app to close the app, you can tap and hold on an app, then tap on setting, then tap force stop, that will give you the same kill as Ghost Commander.

The problem is, the app may be still be relaunched in a few seconds.

    It's possible that it's a 10.3.1 feature

....ghost commander seems to be only for manipualting files...where are the tasks in ghost commander?

i'd like to try taskmanager but it wont download from bbw...it says network error, but other apps download fine.

does taskmanager show different info than the native proc list?

...in an attempt to stop some android apps from running in the background, I patched them with "advanced permission manager"
removing only the 'run at system start' permisson...has anyone else had success with this?

It is a 10.3.1 only feature

As for all of the people recommending using the "force stop" function of ghost commander = that does not prevent background activity, it simply force closes the app.... if you launch it again in the future, it will continue to run in the background unless you go back into ghost commander and force close every single time, therefore, please understand what is being asked by the OP and stop recommending this as a fix.

The true fix for this is the one outlined by Dave Bourque, however, this is a 10.3.1 only feature, so those of you that are not running leaks will have to wait until the release of it to be able to use this. Maybe Feb 19th?

This is the best way ive found to keep pesky android apps closed. Its native, built into the OS and is the most elegant and efective solution.

First you need 10.3.1.xxxx then open device monitor.

Go to battery usage like so:

How to prevent Android apps from running in the background?-img_20150215_024903.png

Then tap on the app in this example is sound hound, as you can see below there's an option to "close":

How to prevent Android apps from running in the background?-img_20150215_024859.png

Tap "close" then this comes out, select ok then this follows:

How to prevent Android apps from running in the background?-img_20150215_025129.png

If you check the app after that the option to "close" is now greyed out:

How to prevent Android apps from running in the background?-img_20150215_025642.png

After that you can check if the app is running in the background using app ops, taskmanager or whatever app you use.

    Ive never had a problem.

It is a very long and not useful process. It gives you option to force stop it but not show you what's currently running like Taskmanager. If you find the home tab, then applications, then click the app then click manage that's where he is saying to go..

I've tried downloading Zapper from Lookout but it won't open so will have to try with 10.3

Also got advanced task manager from infolife, his both google play and amazon.. they both launch but aren't displaying the running processes properly (it's also suppose to have a app ops manager for permissions) but will have to try with 10.3
