Hey folks, I'm considering buying a passport as a tablet-like device for study. Is it good to use for viewing pdfs?
I got a lot of electronic scipts and I'm tired of wasting paper
    Thanks for comments

Thanks. And compared to a 7in tablet? Of course it's smaller but is it decisively so? I really want to use it instead of a tablet?!

Let's just say, it works great for reading materials without a tablet. I would say an iPad is better, but it is heavier.

It's very good as a document reader. The Passport and all the 10 series operating systems I believe have dynamic re-sizing. When you expand a word document with the swipe of your fingers by using the spreading motion it right-justifies the text so you see it on the screen...no side to side scrolling required. As to PDF if you go into Text Reflow Mode, you can change the font size and the text reflows within the boundaries of the screen again...no side to side. By the way in email mode when you expend an email, it dynamically resizes to fit the screen too. As to EXCEL, a great feature is the ability to freeze panes and look at documents while scrolling to your right and maintaining the row headers so you can understand what you are looking at. It is a great reader. And there are lots of things you can do to a document in a pinch. I am not sure an iPad will dynamically resize a document or my email for that matter.

My Passport has become my main device for reading PDF files and others. I also own an IPad mini and a Surface Pro and most of the time I use my phone. So portable and easy to use and the screen!

Definitely a good reading device if you don't have the luxury of carrying a full sized tablet all the time. The screen has a very high resolution so even small font is very sharp. The keyboard scrolling (or even just using a space bar click to scroll down) makes it pretty enjoyable.

I read patent related documents all the time on it. The only thing the Passport doesn't do is make it any less boring.

My tablet and Kindle are very lonely sitting in the drawer - at least they have each other. I haven't used either since getting the Passport, perfect for PDF, spread sheet, ebooks, etc.

It is hands-down the best handheld device for working with documents. Tablets obviously allow more real-estate for larger formats. Also, the Passport screen has one of the highest dpi ratings out there right now, so it renders with great detail.

I have an iPad mini I hardly ever use anymore because I'd rather read on my Passport.

    Excellent phone for reading docs.

The other day I was reviewing an Excel document. I was rather impressed. To be honest I don't typically review documents on the go, I wait till I'm at my computer. On this occasion I was showing someone else.

It is excellent for reading PDFs. I regularly read schematic diagrams, service bulletins and manuals and find the phone much better suited for those kinds of documents than the 6+ I had previously. That was one of the primary reasons why I switched.

This was an excellent answer and I believe got to the heart of the matter. Having to move a document side to side would be a non-starter for me...

Even compared to my 8inch venue pro the clarity is superior. I read close to 10 PowerPoint presentations and at least 4-5 pdfs and articles a week on this phone and have never had an issue storing them for later review on the go. It's easily the best phone for the job. Good luck with your decision.
Another thing that is of great use is being able to edit on the go and with the right pen (I use the adonit jot pro stylus) you can sign contracts and other documents away from home and send them via multiple methods.
