Do I just click the trash icon on the top right hand corner? Or is there a better way?

You can delete an app from the device manager as well, but that takes multiple steps

Open BlackBerry World, go to My World, My Apps & Games, Installed, choose the app and long press. Click Uninstall which then gives you the option to either un-install (you can then re install it at a later date) or to delete permanently.

I think pressing and holding the icons and clicking the trashcan permanently deletes them too.

If it's an android app there might be some residual files you might wanna clean up. It can be found in the file manager in the android folder.
