Had a Passport for less than two weeks. Worked fine for two switches of the SIM card. On the third time of switching back to the Passport, the SIM card was not recognized as being inserted. I switched with power off. Than started it up.
Tried different ways of inserting, power on, power off, volume button reset, even OS reload.
    Nothing works.
Tried new sim, even tried old SIM in different phone and works fine in other phone.

    Anyone else have this issue?

Anyone else switch between phones regularly? Passport and some other phone.

My Passport is now in the process of being replaced.
So it's not a huge deal, but I'm wondering if I should just stick to a single phone or is the Passport SIM slot able to handle regular switching back and forth of the SIM card?

I bought mine used from amazon. No backdoor problems from accessing porn, no audio problems, and no sim card problems. I also switch phones on the regular. Either I have the greatest PP ever made, or you sir, are the WORST cell phone owner of all time.

I am on third passport because of sim tray. I had same problem after using in another phone. This last time RMA department implied some carriers Sims are more sensitive. I also got impression that it is a common problem on original passport

    Thanks for the info

Yeah, some time back around March or April I remember seeing a handful of people posting threads about failed SIM slots.

I'd like to be able to switch between my two phones. But if the slots are to sensitive with continued swapping of the SIM card than I'll just choose and stick to one phone.
Feed back from other users before making that decision and selling off the phone I don't choose is all I'm looking for.

Anyone have the links to the failed SIM slot threads?
I'd like to read up on them, see if there was a solution other than RMA.

Why find another solution? You seem to have the RMA and gadget-hypochondriasis processes down to a science.

Failed SIM card tray slot is a hardware related problem. There is no other way but to either replace the SIM card tray slot or replace the whole unit (which is more advisable especially if your unit is still under warranty period).

When I first put my SIM inside the PP, I got service. Then like an hour later it didn't work. I tossed my old SIM and got a fresh 4G one and it worked just fine.

You probably scratched the main chip. Try and get a new SIM instead of replacing tens of PPs.

My passport did the same thing and I did not drop it. I kept on removing the sim card, switching off the phone and turning it back on over and over again. It worked after that. I think I tried it about 20 times before the phone could recognize the Sim card.

Also, SIM that is just cut to nano are more prone to cause damage to your SIM slot.

Also removing your SIM back and forth may also cause damage to the chip in the SIM or to the connectors. You may try using an eraser to clean the SIM connectors before plugging it back in.

    That's my biggest concern.
It's actually how this current SIM slot issue occurred.

    Shut phone down
    Pulled Sim out
Put it in my second device for the day.
    Came back, put Sim in
Powered up and didn't recognize that the SIM card was in.

As mentioned earlier, repeated swapping of SIM card may damage the SIM Card and the chip inside the SIM card. By the way, is your SIM card a pre-cut nano SIM or was it a micro SIM cut into a nano.

What is your second device? Is your second device also a phone that accepts Nano SIMS? Does your second device use a SIM tray or is it spring loaded?

I have swapped my nano SIM between my Passport OG, Passport SE and it initially came from my iPhone and it has survived so far. I think proper handling is the key in ensuring your SIM tray won't get defective.

    Other device is LG V10
    Yes it takes nano sim
And it's a tray not spring loaded

And the SIM card is straight from the carrier cut to nano size

So it should be switch able, as you note with your phones.
Have you or do you switch it back and forth alot?

Not a lot, but I did switch it a few times especially when I was moving from my iPhone 5s to the Passport OG over a year ago. Then just recently, swapped my SIM a few times again when transferring from my OG to SE.

I also swapped SIM a couple of times when my Passport was blocking the Hotspot when I was roaming during a trip to another country.

So is the SIM precut to nano? Or the carrier cut a micro SIM to Nano? Those are two different things.

Do you swap it out a lot?
Or pretty much leave it in all the time?
