I was wondering if there was a way to keep the numbers and symbols on the screen while typing them on the keyboard.

As an example if I wanted to type more than one digit number or more than one character using the physical kepad. At the moment when I swipe down on keypad to bring the onscreen numbers and symbols, that menu will disappear when I press one physical key that matches the corresponding on screen key. Can I lock it to stay on the screen so I can type more than one digit or symbol using the physical keypad?

In some situations, you'll need to type several symbols or numbers in a row. To insert more than one special character at a time, you can turn on the symbol lock.
On the row of touch screen keys above the keyboard, tap @123.
To turn on mapped mode with the symbol lock, touch and hold down arrow
The primary keys of the BlackBerry Keyboard appear on the mapped symbol picker. You can then type on the BlackBerry Keyboard to insert the associated symbol.
To close the symbol picker, tap down arrow

    This is very useful.

I've tweaked the thread title to make it more likely to appear in a search.
