    I don't have access to a computer all the time... What is the best way to backup my phone in case it's lost or stolen.

    An app in Blackberry World called Ultimate Backup. You can backup all your info to an SD card, to the cloud (Dropbox, Box etc) to any USB drive connected to your Passport etc. (you don't specify in your post which device you have and if you have USB OTG).
