I'd like to add custom ringtones, but don't know how.
I was trying to discover where the default ones were stored, but can't get into 'protected-media' which is where I assume they normally reside.
If someone can show me how to change permissions and also how to add new tones I'd be grateful.

Also, can those from other phones (i.e. Android) be compatible?

The Ringtone in the Protected Media folder are your built in ones, and you can't add to or access that folder.
However, you can add any sound file as a ringtone via the Settings/Notifications/Customization subsections.
    The device supports:
    • Audio formats - AAC, AMR, AWB, FLAC, M4A, MKA, MP3, OGG, WAV, WMA

Just add a folder to the Device memory, or SD card, drop the audio files you wish to select from into it, and then navigate to that folder within the Settings/Notifications/Customization/Contact or Application you wish to add the ringtone too.
