$599 is not too high for the Passport. With tax, I paid $569.23 for my Z10. They sure as hell weren't going to price it in the same neighborhood as the iPhone 6.
I would prefer a more aggressive approach to help get market/mind share. They could lose $200 on a million devices and it would be worth it if it got them back into the conversation.
I would give $300.
Not for the flagship model.
The Z20 will be the "volume sales" model later this year (or early next). And BlackBerry won't make much money on that one anyway, since it will be Foxconn handling pretty much everything but the marketing.
I could not agree more. Fair and brilliant price and an ***** thread here.
Has it occurred to you that the MediaMarkt price was deliberately boosted to catch the early adopters? Maybe they're price gouging.
Also, it's possible that they applied that price for pre-orders, but deliberately set it higher because they didn't know for sure what the retail would be. It's easier to refund a customer the difference for a too-high price than it is to come back and ask for more money when you've set a too-low one.
What's wrong with you people? 600$ too high? It has innovative keyboard and high specs. I think the keyboard alone HAS to have a certain price. If it was full touch which is nothing special I think it should be less though.
That being said, I won't be buying one.. nearly broke student here
Let's just say that I was betting it was going to sell for $799.

It's a good price for that beast. Also, if you gonna own one, expect people to come ask about it. Show it off cause it's free and extra advertising for BlackBerry.
CB10 - Q10
Should be 499

Don't care how innovative it is it should be affordable

It has occurred to me :)
hence the "if they were to price it ..."
well now we will know for sure in a few hours.
Edit: I just saw it in pre-order from FNAC website (big retailer with many stores in France) and even if your comment can still make sense, they propose it at... 669.90Euro = 860$
We'll see if they priced it as you think with a possible re adjustment after the official launch, but for now we have Chen's announcement at 599$ vs 860$ of a big french retailer (no way to explain rationally such a difference) http://www.blackberry-fr.com/blackbe...ande-669-fnac/
And this is why you are wrong. Passport is not a mass market device in the first place.

I'm okay with $599 but I really would like to know if this will have a holster...that is a bigger deciding factor for me. Having owned 18 models over the last 10yrs this is a must.

Nah. Not too high of a price. I paid 600 for my Z10....
The Z10 was priced wrong. Definitely not the Passport.

599$ is an affordable price for a high end device.
Posted with my amazing Z10
My Z30 $499 through Verizon and same as my Z10 through Verizon. Both $499.00
Sounds fair st $599
It's a BlackBerry Z30 on Big Red
$599 for a premium work device? Nope - that's fine for me.
The kind of customer who will purchase this won't worry too much about the price.
Z30 is still priced at US$ 499.

so it is fine to compare specs and price to other devices but when it comes to sales it is not because it is not for everyone, right?
$600 sounds fair. How much was the Samsung S and the iPhones going for on their release date?

We've already established that the Passport's price is pretty reasonable given the spec, but you're making the argument that the price should be even lower to build market share.
That isn't the Passport's mission, though. The Z20 will be the "volume" phone, and it will be much less expensive.

I am in Australia and will be very surprised/ happy if it is around $599. I will be getting it anyway regardless of price but think it will ultimately be about $750 here.

I'm guessing they are selling to enterprise customers, so its priced for businesses. Gives them some wriggle room if they have large orders to drop price, but to sell one here and there to individuals and sell at a low price cant see it happening.
