I just purchased a Passport, used to use a Q10. When I used to swipe up on the Q10, it would default to my first window of apps if no apps were open. On the Passport, it defaults to the home screen that contains the time. Is there anyway to change this? By the way, how long does it take getting used to this thing, I miss my Q10 keyboard already.

Settings > Display > Show Wallpaper When All Apps Are Closed to OFF

And as for getting used to it, it took me a couple days, coming from a year and a half of using a Z10/Z30.
