I'm currently using a Z30 and am on the fence about buying a passport. After digging out an old curve 8900, I noticed that you can start typing right on the home screen to bring up a contact. Does the Passport have the same functionality? Thanks

Yes. Once you start typing, it'll bring up Assistant. Contacts, conversations, files, web history etc.

You can also speed dial by holding a key, and coming in 10.3.1, launching apps as well.

So, just to clarify. If I unlock my passport to the blank home screen and start typing it will bring up contact information? If so, is it the same type of interface as in the hub after tapping compose? Thanks again.

If you just type the contact name it will bring up the address book contact. It you use the shortcut commands, you can type "text wife" and it will open the compose for texting your wife. You can also use other commands like email and call etc.
