I'm a huge fan of listening to music and streamed content and have tried a few in-ear headsets to listen. However some came up really bad and others excelled in performance.

The worst ones were urbeats: went thru 4 pairs and basically used for a few month then audio loss would occur in one side.

I like flat non tangle cables and the best one for me were the AJAY 5's with incredible in ear sound.

Just curious what type of headsets you are using with your passport? I've also never been a fan of the headsets included in box either as the sound quality is really bad.

If you really think it's horrible .... I "could" interest you in a Palm, Windows Phone, Android or better yet iOS Calendar setup/view/style/lack-of-productivity if it would suit your tastes better

Nothing is wrong with them at all. But the OP called out audiophiles. So expect a wide range of products outside of the stock offering.

I also use my Shure SE315 inner ears when I want to just relax, but usually get lazy and just pop on my Audio Technicas.

I'm really happy there are some Blackberry users who know their stuff on audio and didn't just pick up some overpriced Beats or Bose headphones, or sacrifice your wallet and audio quality for bluetooth headphones. So, how does the Passport sound?

I tend to alternate between V-Moda Crossfade LP2s and noise-canceling Sennheiser PXC-450s, and find the Passport sounds just fine. Not dedicated-DAC-and-tube-amp good, but still very good. I don't consider myself enough of an audiophile to be comfortable describing the sound in the way one would expect on a full source component review, but I'm more than happy.

waiting for my passport...but been using Shure 846's on the z10 and the audio quality has been quite good - a bit of noise but much better than previous phones and my old iphone 4s

Nothing is "wrong" with them, it's just nicer headphones sound better so you can enjoy your music more.

Recently gave the Monster isport Victory's (in ear) a go. I really liked the sound (pronounced high's, deep bass) but they wouldn't stay in my ears.

So now I'm rocking another in-ear headphone. The Bose Freestyle's, which are rock solid at staying in your ear if you have that problem. Sound is a little bit more flat compared to the Monsters but still better than most. I'm happy with them but keep in mind that I'm limited to which earbuds I can use due to fit.

I would prefer over ear headphones but they just aren't practical for my personal type of usage/activity etc..

I use Passport with Westone 4R headphones. Quite good, but I like a little bit more bass...

I wish BlackBerry would support USB audio and let me use my portable DAC / amplifier with it (fiio x5). Until then I never listen to music with any of my BBs.
Android has usb audio starting from L, while before it was up to the manufacturers to support it. Samsung does since galaxy S3 if I recall.
Apple has it locked down and DAC manufacturers need to apply for a license and pay fees.

BlackBerry Passport work perfect with external standart USB Audio soundcards throught usb host cable. I test it with Creative Sound Blaster Live 24 bit external and B&W Zeppelin Air speaker. Works perfetly with both. So it must work with your portable DAC.

Saw an article the other day that Sony is about to launch some high end head phones that have frequency response of 5hz to 40 KHz rather than the more common 20hz to 20 kHz.

What's the point? Wouldn't the lower tones just be vibrations rather than noise and the higher ones just inaudible? Sounds like a true marketing gimmick..

The lower responses have always been dull so that's good that they improved the lower sonic response.

I say if yer ok with the msrp of 250$ for the Klipsch x7i's, totally worth the $$$.

The Ajay 5's are also quite impressive cost wise at about msrp of120$ sound like a lot more expensive in ear monitors!

I realise this but I am referring to the direct use with the passport. I have found depending on the version of os there are slight differences in audio response so wanted audiophile users with Passports specifically chime in!

Been a CB fan fer a while and I am aware, of double posting without searching the forum base!

Klipsch x7i's all the way. They are not professional class but approaches the quality and the sound profile is hyper clear without being too warm and the bass response is great too.

I also use Jaybird Bluebuds as well. They have pretty good bass for being compact and wireless. Also, designed for athletic use so they are sweat-proof and can fit over or under the ear.
