Doing it the other way round :)
using the 1st generation Classic, getting it's bigger brother a PP and use both until the 2nd generation of one of the two will pop up.

If BB10 eventually went open source, perhaps with licensed closed source QNX libraries, I would be willing to be part of that and join the dev team.

That's my thought as well.

It's a great device and I have 2 but as with all tech devices it will be surpassed and will come to lack some 'core' functionality we 'need'. So when BB10 is no longer supported and updated the Passport will become obsolete. C'est la vie.

For years. People still use WebOs. They " died" five years ago.
Bb10 is an outstanding system. It won't just go away like WebOs did. Universal apps or web changes will eventually kill apps.

For some people who have adapted to mobile payments and are accustomed to fingerprint sensors, the passport will become obsolete quicker.
I'd say 2 tops. Technology evolves so fast, it's only a matter of time before standards for things like Web browsing aren't met.

Yeah mobile payment might be important but for the rest: most things will work for quite some time. I guess it will take us till 2018 without much hastle. My hops are going up until 2020 but that will be rough.
I still use my webOS Pre3 as daily driver for private use. The only reason I bought a Passport was the outdated Web browser on the Pre3 and the broken WhatsApp client. Everything else was working pretty good up until 2015.
So as I said once before. It will be 2 years until you start recognising that you are living on an abandoned ship. And it is two more years until your feet get wet. (speaking for webOS, I'm not sure when the drowning will come. For that mobile data protocols and or all google/yahoo/microsoft functionality would have to go away. )

Depends on what you do with your phone. If you primarily text, email and phone calls it should last for a very long time.
Posted via CB10
Till it stops working and parts are no longer available. If I can't do it with BB10, then I ain't doing it.

Well I still have my playbook. I even played a game on it recently. My guess is I will keep it until it dies completely.

I never change phones without there being a reason, like if it gets hurt or something like that but I don't follow trends and have to ditch my phone every time i see a new one on t.v. , so as long as blackberry continues to support this one and they don't force android on me I'll have it a while.

I want to make something perfectly clear..... I have never had a problem with a Blackberry product! They have been dependable, productive, efficient, and fun! I will use my Blackberry: Passport, Classic, and Z10 until they die! In my opinion, (which may not mean much), Blackberry has a major problem, big problem... a huge problem with timing and marketing! Not their devices! The question's not "how long will we use a Blackberry? But... when and how will Blackberry take a strong hold again, of this industry with the products they've invented? Let's poll that and see how Mr. Chen responds!

This is absolutely true. Just this afternoon I went to a busy ATT store, and over a year later my PP was the first they'd seen. Said they had the Priv, but had only sold a few. And BB wonders what the problem is?

I have no problem continuing to use a Bb10 device but what happens if Gmail APIs change or Twitter and there isn't the support from BB anymore? I guess as long as Hub integration and push email works then the phone will continue to be useful.
Wow! I thought the Silver Edition got rid of the screen lift problem. Am thinking of buying a Passport SE but this concerns me.

I will keep this Passport until it dies. There are folks out there still using the 9900 as their daily driver. If those devices are still productive, then I've got a few more years with this puppy. Besides, my old 8320 is still alive. I use it as an mp3 player. It had all my old texts when I revived it so it probably still works as a communication device. I have faith in the longevity of my Passport, even if BlackBerry doesn't.
I too will keep my Passport, which I purchased on opening day back in September of 2014, until it dies. I love it. In fact I recently picked up a SE due to the Shop BlackBerry sale and will use that once something happens to my black one.
Another 1 - 1.5 years max. I upgrade every 2-3 years because usually at that mark, technology has evolved enough for me to care.
Until it dies

It will be around for another 5 years I guess. I just received my new black passport and this beast,im guessing will last 3+ years. Previously owned iphones and android devices, I don't see myself using other OS since I love OS10. If this one breaks, I would just buy another one, provided I have the funds lol, before they discontinue it, which I doubt anytime soon.
Piano Black Passport
Until it dies. And if Chen decides to stop making new BB10 smartphones, then i am off to gettinng a Turing smartphone with the Jolla sailfish Os.
Forever bruh
