No, just my fingers!
Thanks for your repy, this is what shows up:

And it doesn't show anything when trying to find an address or showing the current location; the first time it asks for google services.
Threads like this make it increasingly clear to me that Android is the future of the smartphone world. On one hand somehow fascinating to watch how this giant (Google) devours slowly but certainly the whole competition on the other hand somehow scaring. I'm wondering how long Apple will be able to stand this.

There are many google alternatives.
I installed Google Play via Cobalt's method, which includes BlackBerry Google ID, an app he provides that allows you to log in to Google services. After that, I installed Cobalt's patched Google Maps, but since then, I've been updating Google Maps every time there's an update, which I think means I'm no longer using the patched version. Things are still working. When I start Google Maps, I don't get the Google Services needed message. I think it only happens when I try to save locations or some feature like that.
Something isn't reading right. A unpatched app cannot be installed (updated) over a patched app. If this is what you actually did then something may have changed, or you didn't have a patched version of Maps installed. I'll have to look into this further.
Perhaps you should post that in Cobalt's Apps thread and see what Cobalt has to say about that.
Hmm... interesting. In Settings/About,terms & privacy, it says I'm using Version 9.23.1 (#923100123), which agrees with what Google Play says is the latest.
I think I did all that, and other android apps are working... Just not Maps.
Did you patch Google Maps according to the instructions in Cobalt's Patching thread? Cobalt's threads are really where you need to post your issues. Those are the threads Cobalt monitors and answer many questions.
Okay, I asked in Cobalt's thread and conite says patched can only be installed on patched, which means I probably only installed the official app and it worked for me.
Seems like I installed the unpatched version and it's been working fine.
Yea, read it. I subscribe to all of Cobalt's threads. It's the best way to catch all of the updates, read about issues and answers, and to give answers thereby helping others.
See ya over in those.
I recently had to stop using Snap since I updated to 2836. It basically became useless since I can't even login. But Cobalt's alternative works flawlessly. It even loads faster than Snap. So give it a try, but be aware that the Priv is still the best option for running Android apps. While we can run apps on BB10, in the not so distant future we won't be able to once all low end Android devices come preloaded with any rom other than 4.3.

Dont forget the many thousands of tablets running 4.3 jellybean. The apps constantly update on those tablets. no lack of support there. IE: Sony Xperia Tablet $500 + tablets...
I doubt Google will (sooner than later) permit the use of anything lower than lollipop as soon android N gets released. The advances made after 4.4 are tenfold what was before it. And now that we live in a "privacy" conscious corporate environment, Android gets consistently updated for security reasons. Let's not start on why BlackBerry is more secure please... but we have to acknowledge that every time there's news of a way to hack an Android phone, there's a patch release asap. Kitkat will soon be a 4th iteration of a same OS. That's 1 too many imo.
Also kitkat (I think) doesn't support android wear and other features that were introduced with lollipop , like 64 bit systems ( almost the norm in high end, mid tier devices). So in essence my guess is that in order to go forward just like Facebook / WhatsApp dropped BB10, symbian, and the early androids win phones support same will happen to kitkat. Of course this won't be tomorrow or the day after, but soon.

The latest Google Maps work as long as you patch it.
I can log-in, find a location, go to current location, find directions, etc. So for short it is fully functional.

The only feature of GMaps I haven't got to work is downloading for Offline Areas. Other than that it works well.
