Google maps 9 works on passport like previous release. The first launch is very slow. And just hard reboot your phone after install.
Hi,
I have it installed on the Passport. (via Snap)
Works great, I love it.
The version I have is 8.3.1 if that helps.
Does the app eat the battery at an alarming rate?
I can fully confirm! I downloaded Google Maps via Snap and had to reboot. Works fine now, even though it deems it necessary to prompt you to install Google Play Services each time you hit the "my location" button. Pressing "ignore" solves that problem, but it IS pesky.
Rebooting seems to be necessary after most Snap-Downloads.
Mine is 8.1.0, working great.
Didn't know the newer versions are tightening up the integration with Google services... bad news for us.

Not at all for me.
Barely a factor in the device monitor. I guess it depends how you use it.
Can you guys confirm if turn-by-turn navigation works as well? (the one with audio)
I hate blackberry maps as much as I hate apple maps
It works for me. I am running a slightly older version though as my fiance updated hers (on an android) and doesn't like it. Still running 1.8.401.113
Why change a good thing? Runs flawlessly except for the aforementioned "install google play services" message that you have to ignore every time. When using it with location turned on, there is more battery drain. But that's because your device is using more hardware, same as any other device running GPS.

Works perfectly for me. Use it for hours per week and haven't had a problem. Just as stable/fluid as it is on ios and android.

I just received my Passport 6 hours ago and I want to update/confirm for anyone that is wondering...
The latest version of Google maps, Version 9.1.0 does in fact work flawlessly -- Installed via SNAP.
To get your location working, though, you will need to use the workaround for google play services (which I am working on installing atm).
Woot! loving this phone by the minute!
Google maps has me down to where I sit with my pass port better than my android phone

Could you explain how? Thanks.

Explain which? How to install Google maps on snap, or cobalt's method for patching to get Google play services?
Posted via CB10
Google maps gets your location down quite well without any additional downloads or adjustments. Not sure why you need to get Play services downloaded.

Sorry to be specific "cobalt's method for patching to get Google play services". I have it installed via snap already

Realised there is another long thread about this. No need to reply. Thanks

Hi,
The black bar on bottom of the screen, disappear after few seconds or always remains in google maps.
thx
You can make it go away like in all android apps. Swipe down from the BlackBerry logo and tap hide bar.
Trage cu degetul de sus n jos de la logo-ul din partea de sus a ecranului ?i apare o bara cu dou? op?iuni. Alege hide bar ?i dispare.

thx for your reply. it's very nice to have a clean display, without this bar who take a little bit of display surface in more apps on blackberry phones.
I don't know why they don't make an other solution for back button, maybe a swipe gesture like when you close an app or to make the back button to appear just in corner of screen, not the bar on entire screen with one button on him.
I hope that with a new update of bb os they will find a solution.
There is a swipe back solution already implemented and it really works. Remember, you only need to hide the bar once per app, it will not show up again the next time you launch it, so I don't find it too annoying to hide it. I only use a few android apps anyways :)

That's a good news. I thought that every time when i will launch the app, i will need to hide the bar. I was a bb 9900 user, but now i'm thinking more and more to sell my Note 3 and to buy bb Passport.
Like you, i need some android apps on bb (Google Maps, YouTube app, Moon+ Reader, Solid Explorer), thats the reason why i asking about the bar..etc.
Thx for the answers.
YouTube won't work on BlackBerry, you will have to use the browser.
Also, you won't be able to sign into your Google Account with Google Maps and have all your favorites and such. It will be a blank slate every time you open the app.

For those that use it, the "Send to Car" app seems to work fine with Google Maps on the Passport as well.
There is a way to do this, search for Cobalt's Google apps landing page thread.
