    Hi,

I would like to start using my Passport a bit more again, while waiting for what Onward Mobility comes up with (if anything). Ideally I would be able to use Google hangouts. Can it be done?

    Thanks

"The Google Talk App for Android and the Google Chat tool in Gmail were discontinued on June 26, 2017 and no longer function. Users may still continue to use third-party XMPP clients to connect to the legacy Google talk server, but only for 1-on-1 chat with Hangouts users."

Try Hg10, which is a XMPP client.

Hangouts seems to work for me on Android for one on one and group chat. There seems to be a "get video link" function in it also, although I don't know if my group has ever used that. I am not sure if that apk would work on passport (probably not) and how far back of an apk might be compatible with it.

    None will work.

Back when I was searching for a solution no app I could find would install and/or run on BB10. The last option I landed on was HG10 - and that doesn't work with groups.

As a last-ditch effort you can try some of the XMPP clients here: https://search.f-droid.org/?q=xmpp&lang=en

Look at the ones specifically able to run on android 4.3 or less.

Thank you. I have installed HG10 for now. It took an older version of Chrome as well to get the BB10/Playbook app manager extension working. With the newer versions of Chrome the webpage continuously refreshed and I couldn't connect.

Is there a Gmail app also I could use? Now I am using the website version of Gmail with my Kiwi browser.

    Thanks.

I will look into those as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

Gmail? Just use the native Hub.

Yaxim works well on BB10. You can find a newer apk, still compatible with Android 4.0, at the project website: https://yaxim.org/download/

Thanks. What settings should I use to connect to my Google Hangouts account?

    Try this: https://github.com/linuxcsuf/linuxcs...oogle-Hangouts

The server listed there (talk.google.com) responds when I ping it, so it seems to be up still.

If it works, post here so that people know

Yaxim asks for a jabber ID. If I use advanced and I use my Gmail address and password it just says cannot connect to talk.google.com

I thought when you said Yaxim works that you actually use it for connection with Google Hangouts.

The first time I installed it, there was an issue with it not showing everything correctly. There were some group chats active in my account. I don't know if it had to do with anything. I made sure I had no old conversation and reinstalled the app.

Currently it looks like it's working. I will do some more elaborate testing to make sure.

No, I was adding to brookie229's comments on XMPP clients.

HG10 is not reliable unfortunately. I think the whole move from Google to integrate Hangouts into Gmail has rendered the app useless. If the app is open and I exchange messages it kind of works but not some parts of the conversation history are always missing.

Shame. Not sure if the developer is willing to continue updating it (if possible)

He indicated that he didn't have much interest in further development years ago: https://forums.crackberry.com/showth...1#post12498063

If you look down that page, he said he might work on it again, but the last activity on github was six years ago: https://github.com/amonchakai/Hg10
