I don't know what happened but somehow Skype got ahold of my battery and just thrashed it. My battery won in the end, but it's hurt real bad. I don't even think that the app was fully open. I got home today and my battery was below 50 percent. I have a new Jawbone fitness bracelet which had me running my bluetooth constantly however my device monitor shows bluetooth battery use at 0.08% (which is actually very surprisingly low considering it has been on and connected to 1 or 2 devices for most of the day so far) and Skype shows a 17% drain and I didn't even use it!
I really hope that the device monitor is accurate and somehow Skype was running in the background. It's ridiculous how much battery that drained. I never really used it anyway, only to show people that I had it on a BlackBerry. But I don't want a horribly inefficient program like that on my device. Goodbye Skype.

I'm not sure why, but there are a couple of apps that randomly do this to my battery.
One day I'll just be sitting around, not even on the phone and I will notice that my legs are on fire and the phone is super hot. I look at the battery settings and snap2chat took 80% of the battery after 3 hours. Wasn't even using it at the time. -o-

Anyone know if the Skype downloaded directly from Snap works any better?

I really hope BBM Meetings introduces some sort of desktop client.

This I know... and I thought perhaps I had my password saved (not a typical habit for me) and had accidentally opened it and it logged me in automatically. However, when I opened it to see what was going on, it brought me to the login screen. So it wasn't logged in and it still hogged my battery. First and last time it (and hopefully 'any') app ever does that to my Passport!

Perfectly fine here using native Skype.
Device monitor shows it is using 0.1% to 0.25%.

Are you saying its an android ported app?

On the note of why it affects the battery life.

Turn off all notifications from the settings within the app, this generally worked for me, the battery drain immediately stopped.

For some reason it seems to poll at extreme levels infrequently once its open on active frame or just even closed.

BBM sucked 25% of my battery the other day, about two or three days after the latest update. Only used it for about a minute, then closed the app. Did a restart and seems to be ok lately

No issues with Skype here. Yes it drains when in active call but not when idle. You don't need to log out when closing. Once you close active frame (still logged in) it has Zero impact to battery life.
    Check your settings first.

Afaik it's a ported android app. Which is why all the features work. But it is still android at core so it will still use battery like crazy.

Download the "Task Manager" app from BlackBerry World. If skype show up, it's because it's an android app

I just had to delete Skype as well. Over 20% battery use when it wasn't even opened, it was logged out, reset, everything. Frustrating as I actually used the app sometimes

Well for once you won't have infinite number of duplicate contacts that Skype keeps on adding every time it sync Skype contacts. With Android app I don't think you can sync contacts at all but I rather have none in my phonebook than to have five of each. And once you close the app its closed, at least on 10.2.1
