You know they did have a manufacturing facility in Waterloo. Not sure if it still exists but back in the day prototypes, beta testing units etc were all manufactured in Canada.

Most ICs are designed in US and made by TSMC in Taiwan, not in China.
China does not make these types of chips...not there yet. They just assemble them.

It came with a free Valextra leather case worth $100. I'm going to have to get used to that cause now I can't look at it as easily...but the gold inside the black leather does look amazing.

Any pictures of said case? Or of phone in said case? Would be interesting to see what the included case looks like.

Overall, the device does not stand out enough in my personal opinion. It looks too close to the stock silver. The fact that it's made in Canada is worth the price though. That's seriously awesome. I really wish BlackBerry made the Red Passport in Canada as well, or at least offered a premium version that's made in Canada.

One serious question though about this LE engraved device...what happens if it develops an issue, particularly a non repairable one? You can't exchange it for another. There aren't any more. If there are, then it's not as exclusive because there is more than one same number out there.

I'm still jealous it's made in Canada :|

I don't think made in Canada vs made in Mexico makes any difference; I would bet a gold PP that it is just assembled (eventually) in Canada from the same parts used in Mexico; probably in their prototype shop if they still have it

The best part about the gold edition is the "Limited Edition x/50" engraving. It looks very elegant and high end. Too bad they didn't do the same with the red, even if it was 1000.
