Upon close inspection of my 2 days old passport, I noticed a small gap between the metal frame and keyboard on left side

    Look towards my thumb.

    Another shot.

Below is a picture of the right side as comparison.

    I just need to know
    1. Is this is a defect? Or just poor construction?
    2. If #1 answer is Yes, would it be considered major (i.e. Bring problems to device) that requires an exchange.
    3. Anyone else having this on their PP?

Also, due to lack of stock for this phone where I'm at, I am a bit hesitant to send the phone in.

I personally don't see that as a major issue.

Do you have a beard? Does it get caught in the gap?

I've posted this in the other thread but I'll post it here again.

The small strip below the keyboard is just clipped in place and uses a double sided tape adhesive underneath for extra hold. It is possible that it's not perfectly straight or that the double sided adhesive is not holding as well. Regardless, if you want to remove it, try to straighten it, and affix it again then dig in slowly underneath the Enter key with your nail or a plastic tool and pry it up. It should cause it to pop out.

The strip is basically a cosmetic piece that covers the fasteners at the two lower corners of the device. It has no functional relevance and won't affect your device at all, except that aesthetically it may not look as good because of the gap. If you follow the above instructions you may be able to get rid of the gap, just be careful not to break the plastic.

I tried very hard to see if mine has it but apparently my sight is even worse than I thought before. No, my PP does not have it. Not that it would mattered to me because I cannot see and at night is even worse.

If you happened to come across a beautiful item, wouldn't you want to inspect and admire it thoroughly? I know I do.

Its a defect yes but i dont think it would cause any issue unless something can get caught in the space.

My Passport doesn't have the issues you've posted. If I were you I'd return it and get another one. For the price you paid you deserve nothing less than a device in perfect condition. #2cents

OP, can you return it? as Denim stated, for the price you paid, it should be flawless!

always remember that there are always bad apples among the bunch, it seems you have gotten one :/

Hopefully you can get a replacement and not have to deal with this again!

Have yet to go to the official distributor. Its and 1.5 hr drive away. Plan to do so this weekend. Hopefully they can repair it. I asked the shop where I bought it outright where do I claim the warranty and they told me not through carrier (Celcom) but it's through Brightstar corp. Will update on it. The screen works fine, just that it's bulging out on right corner (above volume button) . I don't want a new set, just want them to fix this. Its just a 12 days relationship but I'm already attached to this phone . :/

Interesting... I had a friend who was a system's admin at Brighstar before the new management came in. Didn't know they were carrying Blackberry products now.

    Goodluck!

oh boy I have the same thing. Order the first one from Amazon and the production data is 10/17/2014, I have the gap in all four corners. I request replacement and return the old one. Got the new one today same production date and same gap in the four corners again. I do not know what to do.

Oh my! that's why I don't want a new set. Cause you never know what new problems it may have. I rather stick to the one where I'm aware of its kinks and just get it fixed. Hopefully with no additional charges of course.
Yes in Malaysia, the official distributor is Brightstar, warranty also by them. Another is Ingram Micro, but the former is more prevalent? Carrier usually is by Celcom, Digi and Maxis not anymore.

I see your issue. I don't have that gap on my passport. The construction is flush and smooth. I'm sorry about your issue. I couldn't imagine this becoming an issue.
