The more I read about the Passport the more excited I get. I've seen great things, I like the design, the specs, the whole device seems like a refreshing innovative change. The only problem I foresee in my mind is the 1:1 ratio of the screen.

We are in a marketplace dominated by rectangles. Some apps have enough of an issue running landscape vs portrait. The last time BlackBerry had a great innovative change our app selection suffered greatly. With 10.3 I feel like android apps are finally running great and the app gap has closed. I don't want to see our app selection fall back to where it used to be!

Expects, please set my mind at ease

Are apps programmed to scale or will they need to be made special? Will games scale the same way?

wonder the same. But i guess for an idea on how apps run, we should check with Q10 people??

Apps or games could be set up either way. In general it's smarter for an app to be made so all dimensions are relative to the top or a side and therefore essentially scalable as you put it. Some games may have a problem as UI elements are layed out in specific places.

Are there less apps compatible with a 1:1 screen? Yes.
But how much less remains to be seen. BlackBerry has been working overtime to make sure the Passport will satisfactorily scale things for its unique 1440x1440 display.

I've been running 10.3.0.1154 on my Q10 for a week or 2, and so far apps have been running great. I've been using about 6 different Android apps. The only problem has been that the screen is too small for most Android apps. The square ratio hasn't seemed to be an issue.

My guess is that BBRY will get around these problems by simply running apps that aren't developed for the different screen with black borders. It has a big screen and it has a lot of pixels, so any app that previously ran on a BB10 device can easily be run letterboxed on the screen. It's not a perfect solution but any devs who make highly used apps will be updating anyway, and letterboxing would ensure that even teams that are slow off the mark wouldn't hurt their users.

It seems like an easy solution to a potential problem that must certainly have been on their minds.

I have not yet encountered an Android app on my 10.3 Q10 that did not handle the square layout, although I don't use instagram and similar. I think most Android apps are pretty fluid in their layouts because Android devices are so diverse.

I expect the amazon app store to run flawlessly if they're advertising it

Well nearly, I still don't understand why they didn't integrate it with app world, Amazon store should only be a content provider to BlackBerry appworld.

    That would be smooth.
