I am thinking about buying another backup device since I am down to my last Passport.

It looks like the pricing on eBay for a minimally used SE is down to about $250.

(Right now I'm using an OR black version and like it well enough because it seems kind of slimmer in the pocket then the ATT version I was using.)

All of the used SE's on eBay seem to have little scratches and what not. It seems that the SE looks pretty bad when it is scuffed. In contrast the original can be dropped and those really nice I frame pieces seem to protect the phone from looking beaten up.

So how does the silver addition age over time? Does it start to look bad after it is scratched at all? How easy does it scratch?

I think using cases for phones is sort of silly so if that Is what I would need to do to keep the phone looking presentable then I probably don't wanna buy an SE.

Mine looks like new, and I haven't been using a case; after approx 1 and 1/2 years. Looks better than my Nexus 4 did which I used with a case!

Mine, year old in august, looks new. No scratches. I have a flip cover and a screen protector that show some war wounds, but the phone doesn't have a scratch.

Have you dropped it ever? Does it mark up if you drop it? The OR version usually gets a tiny blemish on the corners of the I beam frame that you can't really notice.

I dropped my Passport once getting out of my car because I forgot it was on my lap and it left a bit of a nick. Keep in mind that this was a 4 foot drop onto concrete.

The bottom chin is similar to the ATT version in that it is painted plastic. I can't speak for the SE as I don't have one, but I assume it's probably the same material. The paint seems to scratch off fairly easily, which is why a lot of used ones have those ugly black scratches on the bottom.

I immediately put my SE in a blue Seidio case. When I showed off my SE at the Chicago meetup last week, some sticky stuff from the case's innards got stuck to my device, but it was removable with some gentle cleansing. The SE holds up really well!

Haven't dropped it (knock on wood!), unless you count a couple falls from very small heights (30 cm or less). It only has some dust at the bottom grilles, I once used masking tape to remove it.

The chin is also plastic on the SE, it is prone to wear if not protected.
And the area above the screen can be scratched, thoug it seems to be metallic.
Overall it is a well built monster.

Thanks. I'm liking my OR right now which feels smaller than the ATT. Might order a back up OR. On eBay still looks like $250+ for a used SE.

Mine, almost year old, flip cover with screen protector looks as new as ever. Dropped a couple times, but protection worked.

It's a great phone if you get a new one even better. Truly worth it. Using mine for close to two years now and aesthetically it stands out everytime from my tecno phantom sixplus.

The bottom chin scratches very easily, as already pointed out it's painted plastic as is the sim/microsd cover.
The frame is metal and and hides small scratches very well, but gets these shiny spots from contact with hard materials that stand out easily.

So yes, if you use the phone it will start looking used at some point.

This is sort of what I was wondering about. Don't want something that is so showy that a few nicks ruins the looks.

As other's have pointed out the bottom chin is cheap plastic. After a year and a half my silver edition has a couple small chips (one on each corner) from taking it in and out of the OEM flip-cover case. Also there is a light scratch on the chin from a key or something. It's annoying but barely noticable and only the scratch is visible if it is in the case. The rest of the device looks as good as the day I bought it.

You really shouldn't be worried about a phone getting a few scratches or dents, I have a habit to that kind of thing and i'm telling you how much mental health you'll save when you learn how to not be obsessive over unnecessary details

I agree to a point but if it's a white phone or a silver phone that attracts attention -- and I would be paying $80 more for the bling factor -- then I think it's a reasonable issue.

I dropped my SE on some rocks and it had some scratches on the steel frame.
I got another one on warranty because of the screen lift, dropped it on concrete several times and it has some scratches, but you have to look for it to see it.

And the BlackBerry Logo on the back cover got a strange red colour after 1 year on the old one.
