I just switched to a Passport from BB 9900. I've been a BB user since 2008 and love BB for everything that it is, especially the ability to receive emails instantaneously. So my question is does OS 10 now support push email? (I'm using GMAIL)

    Thanks

IMAP and ActiveSync are supported "push" email protocols.

Your GMail account will push to your phone using IMAP.

An example of a consumer email provider offering free ActiveSync connections for push email is Outlook.com from Microsoft.

I'm having some odd issues. I send a test email from another account to my gmail but it would not deliver to my BB from 10 or so minutes, even when I press refresh, it would not deliver.

I'm on ATT, not sure whats going on.

In the account settings, make sure that the push is enabled.

It depends on your mail provider. Outlook.com for example has beautiful push service which works flawless on BB10. Same goes for my self-hosted mail accounts. As others already stated, Google Mail is said to also work with push.

I use Gmail on my passport and it supports push, it's also much faster than the push email on my iPhone 6 which took a minimum of 15 minutes to get through. On my passport, even though I have it set to 5 minutes, it almost seems instantaneous and I am a happy camper.
