Sounds like a silly question but I have yet to take a photo that was in focus. I tried my finger nails over the edges of the rear camera and don't believe there is a film over it but can't be sure and can't believe it isn't capable of taking 1 shot in focus.

The lack of focus issue was characteristic of early releases. Recent updates have solved the problem and I have no difficulty whatsoever in taking good pictures. Have you got the latest 10.3.1 update? If not, check it on your phone or search the forum. If the phone is new, there is a film over the camera, but judging by what you said, it's most probably a software issue. Hope this helps

Also, I get a white focus box, never a green one.

Mine had a film on it. Do you remember removing one? Mine was actually difficult to see but I hooked my thumbnail on the edge and found it.

You have to hold down on the area you want to focus to get the green focus box and padlock

I suggest try restarting the phone (sometimes mine won't focus and this fixes it) also try focusing it in a bright environment, such as outside to see if it can focus then.

If worst comes to worst then try re installing your os as a last resort

I think the protective shipping film has a little white triangle at the bottom. From what I can remember.

As for the focus rectangle, you have to aim it at the scene area you need to focus on and let it become green (sometimes I point it away and back at the target to trigger a refocus).

What OS version are you running? The camera (particularly the focus delay) has been vastly improved in the most recently released versions (at least for the unlocked non-ATT verstion).
