On iOS (and I think in android), when you send someone a text message (SMS) of an animated gif, it plays in the message, continuously, without having to click on it or anything... (it plays automatically once sent)

Does this also occur on the Passport/in the 10.3 OS?

I'm asking because in BBM, the animated gif only plays once you click on it.

    Thanks

You could test the theory by sending yourself a text

I can confirm that a gif will play continuously in a text message.

Sent it to myself and I'm using PassportSQW100-1/10.3.0.1418 on Telus.

I'd wish they implement this into bbm group chats. Sometimes you don't want to post the picture or gifs but rather share it to the chat for a quick glance

Was the image you sent on device storage? Also, did you attach the GIF from within the Text Messages app, directly from Pictures or File Manager using the Share option, etc...? Just tried the same on my Passport, and the GIF came through as a still image. I believe the attached image was on my media card, though. Not sure if it makes a difference. The image is animated when I view it in Pictures or File Manager.

I just downloaded a gif with my work phone (iPhone) sent it to my Passport and it works fine. It plays continuous as soon as the message arrived.

I then saved the gif and it plays continuously in the picture viewer but the image preview doesn't play.

Ah. I thought you meant that you sent a GIF from the Passport to the Passport (same device), which is what I tried. Have you tried sending one back to the iPhone? Curious if it would remain animated with outgoing messages as well.

Yes I did that when I first posted. Then I tried the second way when I replied to your post. In both instances the gif played in the text message.

Interesting. Must have something to do with the GIF I used, then. Thanks.

Edit: yup, it was the older GIFs I had on my device. Just downloaded a few and tested sending them, and they were animated when received.

I've had mixed results. Maybe, like you said, it depends on the GIF. I don't know.
