The high end devices stayed being manufactured by BlackBerry themselves, not Foxconn, they outsourced the mid-tier phones for higher profit margin

Mine is also experiencing creacking noise.
My First Passport was Creaking on the "spacebar" as if feeling like a loose keyboard experience.
and then I went for an exchange to a brand new passport and this time Creaking noise when clicking on the "b" key.
It's such a great product and I'm a fan of blackberry all over again. too bad on the Quality Control problem.

Hmmm, already dropped mine onto hardwood floor. Built like a tank. Not a mark. No issues like OP describes.

I dropped mine onto tile floor!

No problems too, but really not want to try it again.

No issues here. No plastic sounds anywhere on the keyboard or on the bar below, super solid look and feel.

It will take time to see what happens over time e.g. double typing etc.

Another flawless BlackBerry Passport. My most favorite BlackBerry KB was Bold 9700. I decided to go with 9810 for BBOS7. I have found PP KB to be just as good if not better. Though I have played with Bold 9900 KB and found that to be the best typing experience even with just a short time playing with it.

    Cheers

Wow sorry to hear you are having those issues. I strongly suggest you return the device. My overall impressions of the build quality are very positive. "Industrial strength" is the tern I would use to describe it.

Picked up the passport today and I gotta say.. disappointed with the hardware... when I press down the slightest bit on the bar below the keypad, primarily under the letter c, you hear a creaking noise as if the plastic is bending or there's empty space underneath. Besides that, my 'g' and 'h' button make a weird noise when being pressed, and the keyboard plastic on a lot of the letters feels cheap.. the keyboard typing experience is great and so is the screen, I just wish it didn't feel like cheap plastic and make so much noise when the slightest pressure is applied to the material.

Interesting that you mention this. I had the same issue when I got mine, but it's completely gone away. It's as if the keyboard had to break in. I just hear a nice uniform clicking as I type. The keypress effort seems to have normalized as well.

I second that. There were times in the first day that I questioned whether I would adjust to the stiff keys, but after about day 3, they softened up and now 5 days later it's smooth and a pure pleasure to type on!

Mine is flawless all around. I'm so happy with the great quality control that blackberry has! This device is worth every penny. As far as creaking goes maybe the keyboard needs to be worked in or use some Unicorn urine to lube it up a bit!

I don't have any creaking, the only issue I have is the top volume button is loose while the rest are rock solid.

I have some creaking in my keyboard but I think it's actually the sound of some of the keys and if I remember it's been that way with every "bold style" keyboard
