I bought mine outright from ShopBlackberry at $100 off. And I run it on US T-Mobile, and I have received the 10.3.1 update. It operates with no problems. I had the screen flickering, but rebooted the device, and it went away.

Yup. Bought it brand new in sealed box, at 450 (550 in romanian stores). Got it from an Orange Romania sales rep, which won it at some internal competition. It's nice to see that BlackBerry still incentives carrier salesforce at least in some parts of the world.

I bought mine from a brick & mortar store. Bought it outright as there is no carrier contract system here in India. Got a black one for ₹44,500/-. I'd have loved to buy the red one, but it's not available here. Pity...

No No nooooo, I purchased my AT&T Passport with 2-year contract for $199. For me, there is no smartphone on the market I am willing to pay $500+ for. I buy my device, my company pays for my monthly service.

Also, my Z10 came directly from Blackberry, Got into a ridiculous finger-pointing match with AT&T and Blackberry when I had a hardware problem. BB sent me to AT&T, AT&T said I didn't buy the phone from them, and sent me back to BB. Issue never got fixed. Not going through that again.

$500 USD Black Friday deal. Glad I took the plunge. Travel a lot overseas and easier and cheaper to get a sim card there than pay US carrier prices.

I agree with what a forum is I just don't see why whether purchasing a blackberry outright is a necessary discussion. I mean does it matter?

I can understand if people want to compare prices etc I suppose. Anyway no harm done just my view on the forum as you pointed out :-)
